Comparing a turbo diesel with a turbo petrol engine with same displacement, the petrol engine will usually have more power as well. The difference in fuel consumption has become smaller the last few years.
Unless the car will be running all day long as a delivery car or taxi, I would go for petrol.

I completely agree. I test drove both diesel an petrol before deciding on petrol (116i) which I found provided the best and most fun driving experience. If you do mostly long distance highway driving diesel may be the choice, but for short city driving I believe petrol is better.
