F20 Hidden Menu Access

OK, since a few members enquired, I will try to explain as plain as possible, how to access the hidden menu in your F20.

1. Start the engine (it may work with only ignition on, I have not tried it) and make sure you have all doors and boot closed. If one door is open, it will not work.

2. Press the odometer reset button and keep it pressed until the BC screen changes (at least 10'').

3. When the screen changes, release the button. It will display a menu with numbered options. To scroll to each option you have press once the ODO resete button.

4. Go to option No. 4 UNLOCK and then press the odo reset button for a few seconds. It will enter the menu of this option and it will ask you for the unlock code.

5. The unlock code is the sum of the last 5 digits of your VIN. For example if your VIN is E123456, then the unlock code will be the number 20.

6. Enter the unlock code by pressing the odo reset button so many times required (in our example 20 times), until the number of the unlock code is displayed on the screen. If you accidentaly press the button more times than the required, worry not, just keep pressing it until it starts from 0 again.

7. Once you enter the unlock code, press again the odo rest button for a few seconds, to go to the previous menu. Now, the full unlocked menu should be displayed.

8. Scroll through all the option. Option No. 8 ''Temperature'' displays the outside temp, oil temp and coolant temp. To enter this option just press for a few seconds the odo reset button.

In general, when you are inside the hidden menu, by pressing the odo reset button once, you scroll through the options. By pressing it for a few seconds you will either enter the menu displayed or go back to the previous menu, depending on which screen you are at.

Thanks, just tried it, and it works like a charm!

I've monitored the coolant and oil temperatures during a evening run. The temperatures:

Start (after unlocking the menu)
00:00 - Coolant 68c, Oil 38c
00:05 - Coolant 96c, Oil 69c
00:10 - Coolant 107c, Oil 96c
00:15 - Coolant 107c, Oil 113c
00:25 - Coolant 107c, Oil 114c
...
01:00 - Coolant 108c, Oil 117c

I started off with normal driving, and only started with higher revs after 10 mins. Seems like the engine (oil) reaches the optimal temperature after 10-15 minutes in normal driving conditions. Bear in mind that this test only included local roads with speeds up to 100km/h

That's about right. I have noticed the same thing here. When the outside temperature was around 15oC, it took around 15' for the oild to reach the 100oC mark. Last weekend, when the outside temp was 38oC, it took around 10' for the 100oC mark. In bot cases, coolat and oil temp where almost identical. BTW, last weekend, after some high speed runs and fast acceleration the oil temp reached 129oC.

It is said that accessing the hidden menu will cause the auto air condition don't start automatically. Is that true?

Not in my car. It works as it did before I access the menu.

Hello everyone!

I have been haning arround on the forum since a few months... I already found this info on the net and tried on my car (F20) it worked!

What I would be interested in is the hidden menu in on the business radio screen (i did not have enough monney to purchase the GPS ) And what it would bring us to access it because for the odometer menue I did not find anything interesting to parameter I would have hoped initially to be able to add info on the odometer datas (km/h, oil temp,... on permanent basis I mean)

Thanks a lot in advance!

Zul.

PS: Excuse me if there are mistakes in my writing I am not English speaking

Excellent. Out of interest do you recall what the other options are within the hidden menu?

Hi, I've just come across this thread. Can someone clarify what options are available in the hidden menu? Also, once unlocked, where is the information displayed - is this on the iDrive screen or the instrument cluster? Does the hidden menu 'hide' again once the ignition is switched off? If not how do you return to the normal menu?

Many questions! Thanks in advance.

Hi, take a look at this video -

I have not tested myself, but I'm sure the menu is hidden again as soon as you turn the ignition off.

Be careful. It gave me compulsive behavior problem, as I must bust out the oil and water temperature when the car starts for sometime. I finally stopped micromanaging the car when my wife grew concerned about me and that little black button, button, button button...

I do miss having a coolant temperature guage, would be nice if it could be added either to the media display or better still the OBC.
