the slammed cars have self esteem issue. they just need that attention. the stance says " look at me i need some attention" . the regular drop means, im mature, i know what im doing, im confident and just what a clean looking car. Just my opinion

None of those cars in the first post except maybe the 3rd one are "stanced". They're just lowered a lot and maybe on air. If your rim is tucked, it's not really "stance".

It's nothing new, I've seen cars lower than that since the '90s at car shows. Back then when coilovers weren't cheap yet, people would cut their springs to get that low. It's just a style some people like. Not practical, but no big deal. I preferred it to the mini truck guys who would air out while moving and leaving a trail of sparks, that was somewhat annoying.

Reminds me of the idiots who would either put spacers on or get wheels with the wrong offset to have the wheel/tires stick way out from the fenders. I hung around my friend's repair shop during this stupid craze when he had a car come in for service that had this mod done. The reason he had to get service done was he had a bearing failure due to the improper side loading of the wheel/tire sticking that far out. My friend replaced the bearing but told him he needed to ditch the stupid mod or he'll have to be back in the shop again to have the bearings replaced again. He said he's not changing anything as he wanted the look regardless of how it was trashing his car mechanically.

Another friend came up with a saying for cars like this or other silly mods like the clothes line wings or the cheap ground effects/stickers...."Professionally vandalized."

It can be done somewhat tastefully, however, most of the cars are crapped up with stupid camber and ridiculous stretch/poke.

I guess it just boils down to 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'

Let's not talk about 'functionality' tho.

If they like that, fine. It is their money.
Lowering that much would probably won't even have a faster laps time at a "flat' surface circuit either.
Some kids think they will get aerodynamic advantage, but they need to get entire undercarrige like the racecar+side skirt to have their own pressure on the bottom of the car.
Being that low, they will eventually hit the front "aero" skirt or side skirt on a circurt curve.

Lowering too much (the stance) is only a visual matter.
If some people like it...that's ok for me , but for me personal it looks cheap and the design of the car changes into crap .

I think for those of us that have been around awhile know this is just another phase this generation has used as their signature. I think some of them look pretty cool and show some really neat engineering to achieve the look.

When I was growing up everyone had to have their cars jacked up (like the two below) in the back with the fattest slicks. The higher the jack the better. Even for that, I think that got out of hand too.

I like the look of the Mopar below, but he Nova is too high for me.

Well wonder how long this phase will hold it self. I have had a couple of cars thru the years these types of cars have been popular sens i was 15-16 even before i could get the driving license again it might be a Scandinavian thing.

I Remember a friend of mine a couple of years back he did that to his car, Not to the extreme but the wheel was hiding under the arch. And i had a Volvo C30 T5 R-Design, Witch was lowered but not as much as his. And he said he did it for the aero dynamics. I truly remember sitting in his car getting driven around and it was rattling all over the place sounded like the tires were grinding so hard on the arches. I asked him about it he said its "Completely normal" We also lifted our cars up once i remember when i was changing the exhaust system on my car remembering the C30 was very flat under it while his Audi i think it was an Audi A4 kombi bi-turbo

I think it looked like this. And it was almost shredded underneath. But dint bother to ask him as it was his car and his taste dint want to make him feel bad :P

Haha this reminds me of a picture where it said "BMW: Driven by boys, Mercedes: Driven by gentlemen. Cant remember where ive seen the picture though.

This picture bellow is my C30 T5 R-Design around that time i think 1-2 weeks before getting the lowering set for from H&R

I don't even consider the slammed crowd (not to be confused with stance) to be a car enthusiast, they are in some other category

According to the newer definition of "stance" you're right.

Haha this i can relate to i am only 28 and i find my self making weird grand pa noises when getting out of my car or getting up from my chair, My beloved girlfriend have pin pointed this and said "What are you old? or something?" So now i feel a bit ashamed of driving my car that is clearly for young men and not old gran pas like me. Specially when going to those car events sometimes i feel like i make more noise then my car ....

And if any of you are 50+ and drive a lowered car I am so so deeply sorry if i offended you .....

So maybe lowering my M235i to much might not be an option cause i have been wanting to lower it to make the gap between the wheel and the arch look a bit smaller.
