Resale value
After loads of hassle I asked for a value to get me in a different car, I have a 116i sport with sun protection pack and comfort pack, the one with extra lighting and air con. I was quoted £15,500 for a trade in for a new the same car and same spec. I bought the car in march. Basically saying the car has lost around £7500 in 10 months, I love the car just fed up of the hassle. I also appreciate that the value drops but would have thought its value was around the £17500 mark. Needless to say I told them to get stuffed and they can keep getting it back for repair each time it goes wrong. Just for interest the car is mint and the offer is not even bottom book price

Don't think that it is only the F20
It is a fact on all luxury brands, most buyers want new, so the Car will significantly drop in trade in value during its first year. You should get a higher price selling your F20 privately, as it will still have the BMW warrantee continue on for the new owner. |

Sadly, I don't think the price you were quoted was far out. As you may have read in another thread, last month I bought an 11 month old, 11,000 mile, 120d Sport from a main dealer - well specced with driver and comfort pack, f&r parking sensors, rain wipers, moving mirrors etc for less than £17500. That's a whopping 10,000 off its list price last nov! Or put it another way, a depreciation of 36% in less than a year. Scary! Last edited by Diesel130; 11-02-2012 at 12:51 PM.. |

I have had a shed load of hassle with the coolant fault, 2 bottles and sensors later, damaged bonnet at the dealers I thought it would be better to just get in a new car. Like I say I love the car it's just the hassle I have had. It just made my mind up to keep it, just send it back when it goes wrong for repair again

The deal I got is looking better and better
I bought with a 50% guaranteed value buy-back after 4 years, conditional to a 80,000km limit (I live within 2km from my office, so I only do about 15,000km/year). Essentially, I'm leasing it, at prime -2.2%. The 50% value after 4 years is going to bite BMW in the butt it seems... |

Faulty sensor is not uncommon, specially they are probably all mass produced in China. "damaged bonnet" I am sure the dealer's body shop can take care of that, and making it look like new again. So looks like everything is fixed for now, it would be better to keep the car and use it everyday, instead of sell it and take the loss. Last edited by dchao; 11-03-2012 at 10:36 AM.. |
