While mindful of the torque issue, we need to take care about stating this as a fact, and creating, potentially, another "internet" myth.

The actual gearbox part number is GA8HP45Z. Now, one of the design features of the ZF A8HP 'box is modularity, meaning each model allows for a variety of configurations and applications. Has BMW specified a custom version? Don't know, but given Chrysler has a couple, it's quite probable.

In any case, it seems absurd to assume the box in the M135i just meets the engine's output, with no headroom!

Does anyone else have any information on this issue?
The GA8HP45Z is BMW own part number for the transmission fitted to the all 1 series variants.
The first time you see the higher rated gearbox is in the 330d which has the GA8HP70Z rated for 700NM.

According to ZF they only supply two variants to BMW the 8HP45 and the 8HP70
The Chrysler unit is indeed a one off, the 845RE is basically a 8HP45 but ZF have licensed Chrysler to build their own variants of it.

Cheers

I actually called Quafe from Asia, as some other guys here are interested too. Quafe said the diff will have to be swapped. They also say it does not affect the warrante in anyway (I kinda doubt it), and any shop who has had experience working with BMW should be able to do it. But you're right, the cost is tremendous. I could be wrong but remember it costs something like 3000 USD when it's said and done with no shipping included. We don't have local support on this side of the globe, so if it malfunctions in anyway we are really screwed. We have to then take it off, send it back, and it is unfortunate.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers

Because they've left so much extra untapped potential in the car that a 'magic' reprogram to unleash it for an extra grand or so would sell heaps and cost them next to nothing. It's got to be a sales/marketing ploy. They've baked in an extra cash generator with every M135i sold as one its owners will eventually shell out for the upgrade. Why wouldn't you want to get an 'extra' 40 HP under warranty with no mod involved? Easy sell, surely...

Wow, that is an extremely underwheliming video, we all knew the styling would suck, why they have to be different in a way almost no one likes idk, but then the video and music just blow too.

$3k! Huzzah! I mean, if you're going to drive the car at a track at all, it absolutely makes sense to get one, but boy is that a spendy upgrade.

Not sure if this helps you, but OS Giken makes a LSD for the 135i:

http://www.osgiken.net/products.php?product=lsd

I don't know where the diff is made though, but OS Giken started out of Japan. That might be a better resource for someone in Taiwan.

They make horrible body kits.
If you want to tune your car go with vishnu, jb4 or cobb.

In street driving the e-diff does well. Generally I agree with you though. LSD is key. I understand that LSDs are "M specific" but that's really just a marketing thing. On the Mini site, you can actually configure a Cooper S with an LSD for about $350 IIRC. So obviously BMW believes in swapping them in. As for tuners, turbo tuning will always be a cheap and easy way to make a profit. I think LSDs are a bit tougher to build and distribute.

But yeah does seem odd hey? At the track, with that much extra power, you are going to ROAST those brakes as the ediff frantically keeps up.

FWIW I have tried various Subarus with the OS Giken diffs and it was always night and day (the sti even comes with LSDs, and the OS giken swapped ones are even better). They are quite popular in Canada. I know with BMWs, more people seem to go Quaife, but I haven't heard a bad word spoken about OSG.

Everything is so lame in the video, besides the car.
This is a rip off if ACS sells everything together as a kit! Way too much cosmetic crap and not enough power

+1 I felt that video was a blast from the past. Everything looks wrong on that car.
