Well another way to look at it is A45 is a hatchback and currently the best performing hatchback from BMW is the M135i.
Compare A45 to M2 ( which is a coupe, if there is going to be one ) I am sure some people will object to that as well. |

Here in Australia the A45 is actually a fair bit more closely priced to the M135i than in overseas markets and comes standard with pretty much most things. It's definitely a great car.
I still went with the M135i. It's still a reasonable amount cheaper, I honestly think it looks better, sounds a million bucks and I prefer the interior - the seats look great in the A45, but can't get past the tacky (in my opinion) command screen. Factor in that most reviews say the ZF is a better all round box than the AMG's dual clutch and the fun of rwd and it sealed the deal! I've always said that its great for the market to have both of these cars available, has definitely changed the game for hot hatches. |

1M was compared to RS3 so it's reasonable if the A45 is compared to the new RS3 and M2. At end of day, they are all cars favoured by owners who prefer nimbleness over size and they would all be great small cars.

Thanks for that. The in gear acceleration times are interesting to compare.
Saw a write up in Auto Motor und Sport where they got 5.1s 0-100 for the A45. It was supposedly without launch control, but how often are you going to use that at the traffic lights |

If by interesting you mean, OH DEAR GOD THE TURBO LAG
It's kind of annoying that the automotive press have completely glossed over that fact. I see the occasional mention of it, but no one really talks about it in a way that would be reflective of those in-gear acceleration times.

Hahaha, I was trying to be diplomatic :P
stifla - thanks, yeah they're a great little car aren't they! I'm loving mine It's relatively good value in Australia compared to what BMW used to be like (never thought I'd see a 3L turbo BMW with standard auto/pro sat nav/xenons etc for $65k rrp in Australia), but yes don't talk about US pricing..that just makes me cry haha. |
