ok how one's measuring respect is very subjective, but that's why I said he has won just as much awards (academy, bafta etc), has been active for a very long time (still is) and has made many movies, plays etc.
I'm also not a fan of his work (pretty aquired taste) but that is totally irrelevant. I also dont like the colour red if you know what I mean. I also dont like everything clint eastwood did.

About the child abuse: I wasnt there so I dont know. afaik it hasnt come to a conviction. So I really dont know (I dont think anyone does). A bit of a MJ story if you ask me.

But I can understand he's not the most popular person among the republican voters

Most respected by their peers? It would be #1 Meryl Streep or #2 Tom Hanks, very close. Clint is right there but too conservative for many Hollywood types to be the most respected.

Fan based? Then just follow the money.... #1- Tom Hanks. #2 - Harrison Ford. #3- Eddie Murphy. Clint isn't even in the top ten, but he is my all time most respected. All actors dead or alive, for me it would be Paul Newman, hands down. No one else is even close.

Most respected in the industry by peers? I think Bradley Cooper, while being younger, has garnered a lot of respect for his range and good attitude in a short amount of time. I also think Meryl Streep is probably one of the most respected people in Hollywood today.

I put in my other candidate (who is crazy btw) Tom Cruise. Nobody is hanging onto an airplane, bashing an m3 around, skipping across the burj Khalifa all in the name of making the scene look more real. That's on another level. No one else comes close to putting that effort.
