Top Gear - replacement presenter for Clarkson- Guy Martin?

For the non British ... as I am fully aware that this forum is predominantly populated by U.S. users (as well as many others across the globe) ...

Guy Martin is being pitched as a potential replacement ...

Should Guy Martin take over at Top Gear?

If you don't know this guy : he is a motorcyle racer and a mechanic. He has presented several TV shows, on various topics in the UK. He has masses of confidence, genuine personality and comes across with a real zest and passion for life in general.

Nothing may come of this ... but personally, I think he is someone who could bring a lot to the show.

BBC is the one that should be replaced. World is not a good place when even Brits lose their sense of humor.

I used to love the show but it has aged like Clarkson, not well.

That's a great way of putting it. I miss the cheap car challenges and "how hard could it be" segments. It had evolved from that golden formula into "more supercars, more races, more stars in cars (a segment which I loathed, by the way).

I'm not sure what you mean by losing their sense of humor. I think if you have a look into the details of the fracas, you will see that Clarkson has physically abused and verbally threatened his producer. Some details here : Jeremy Clarkson dropped from Top Gear: Anatomy of the fracas

I'm pretty sure that most respectable employers, would have no issue with the fact that these type of actions are grounds for dismissal.

I have a really good sense of humor ... but I'm pretty confident that it will dissipate rapidly, if a colleague lands a square punch on my face.

May be I am misinterpreting what you mean .... not sure.

Anyway, rightly or wrongly, he is gone from Top Gear now.

The format, as you say, has not aged well. It has been very funny over the years, but has become very repetitive in the last few series.

Hopefully, they will get Guy Martin or someone else on the periphery of the media industry, to take the helm.

As for the BBC : they produce some content in a way that no other media company in the world can - mostly; natural history, the natural world, science, astronomy and period drama. They are unparallelled in these areas. However, there are also a great deal of areas - generally when the swollen layer of middle management get involved - that they get very wrong.

Cheers ...

Yup!

My favorite episodes of all times were exactly those, cheap car challenges, and the africa special. I miss them being free to be idiots, but the show started to be so popular they were under the microscope all the time. For this all I naturally blame the Americans. Their version sucks so Brits got more and more attention.

Funny but sad fact about my life is that I had all the episodes on my laptop, and my spouse hated me being pregnant every time and every night since I literally could not sleep without top gear playing on my screen. To say he hates cars is a very mildly putting it.

I meant the show these days in general, not him attacking a team member.

BBC nowadays doesn't do journalism very well, but fancy dresses and times before ours are their specialty. I used to be a big fan of British humor and also your reporters as documentaries were beyond approach. Now however I'm searching for the next star of the free world.

Mind you, I'm not saying my country is doing this much better. YLE has so many issues it seems their only contribution is Arto Nyberg because he still knows how to ask a question and get an answer. Sad life for European.

I personally like when the producers tried to find ways to kill them, the best was putting them in the deep south of the USA and ask them to paint things on their each other cars that could get them killed. The next one was when the tried to drive to the Falkland island and the local tried to stone them and their cars to death. At first I thought it may be staged, but the Brits do not realize red necks do not have any sort of sense of humor and they would try and kill you.

My very tired mind tells me you sir are pulling my leg but I'm fine with it. He is a solid journalist. A rarity anywhere these days.

Funny thing about us Finns is that we are obsessed with cars and speed but there is not one motor related program there made for humans to watch.

I can empathize with Jeremy Clarkson. I had dinner recently and we agreed on Lawry's Prime Rib. I was craving it after a long day. Then my friend changed his mind and wanted to go to Morton's. Well, we almost got into a fracas and I wanted to punch him because prime rib > steak that night. There was no BBC sighting but you could feel the tension, when we were eating our prime rib dinner with our other friend right in the middle. He broke one of the 3 men's laws. Never drive my car. Never mess with my food. And never date the same woman I dumped or was dumped by. Otherwise a fracas will ensue.

On the flip side, I liked the supercar / performance cars exclusively and didn't give two shits about the other trifles. Problem is... There are only so many great cars and the show had to fill up the other space.

Guy Martin is a cool dude but his enunciation needs some work. He talks and slurs like a racer. Don't know if that'll be met with initial resistance by the viewers.

A lot ... I think there will be a lot. Like the children of the Hydra's teeth.

Anyway, for this thread : I just wanted to communicate the news / speculation in regards to Guy Martin as presenter.

Old Top Gear : is dead. Future Top Gear ... who knows.

Cheers.

I think Top Gear wore me out after a while. I don't like supercars, so those aren't interesting for me to watch. I'll watch Wheeler Dealer before Top Gear.

And while we're on it, what the fuck was with every recent car review being edited to have the head/taillights flash in every damn shot? Look at the Cayman GTS/ Stingray comparison if you don't know what I'm talking about. I know it's insignificant but it was really starting to get on my nerves for some reason.

They are LED lights which actually flash at a high frequency, too fast for us to see. (about 72 times a second) When recording video at a certain number of frames (typically 30-32) per second, you sometimes have a video frame or two coincide with the off cycle of the LED making it look as if it's flashing randomly.

Baffled me for a while as well. Then i took some long exposure night pics at the 24hrs of Daytona and saw this. Then i remember how LEDs work and it clicked. This exposure was for only 6 tenths of a second. So that 41 flashed that many times in about a half a second as it passed the camera.

I was with you untill Cadillac came to play.

Anything but cars with milk capabilities (can transport it with my preferred speeds) is pretty much in the category of I couldn't care less.besides, Ferraris, pretty much each of them look bad in my eyes, Porsches are ugly as hell if we exclude a few really old ones, Vag makes everything look the same and BMW could use someone with eyes to their design team too.

I bought mine because it's a combination of milk transporter and it works in real world. I doubt there are many as good at both around.
