Moving from a 911 to a 135-Qs
Hi all,
Well after a severe back injury, my c4s with kwv3 coilovers is just too harsh a ride unfortunately its time to let her go. I'm considering the 135i or an e92 M3. Has anyone driven an m3 and 911 and care to comment on the stiffness of the m3? I'm doubtful the dealer will let me test drive the 2012 m3 Thanks |

Difficult comparison to make
The driving dynamics of the cars are different. The driving position, torque curves and response weight distribution and the suspension set ups. Both are great cars to drive. The BMW would not disappoint you. I have driven the Porsche C4S but can only compare them to the M135i and 125i MSport RWD variants. Are you looking at the 135i X drive as the comparison? The ride will be better in the BMW (active suspension) Softer on the bad roads and firm on the good tarmac. Talk to the BMW dealer and see if they will let have a M135i for a weekend. That way you can truly feel the differences and the benefits that the M135i gives |

My previous car was an Audi 8P S3. I have M-Adaptive suspension on my M135i, and it has a much more compliant ride than the S3 in Comfort mode, and still handles pretty well. In Sports mode, it seems similar to my S3 -- there's the odd jarring moment -- but handles very nicely. It's these features that make the car such a pearler. |

I found the standard M3's ride a bit more settled than the 135i M-sport coupe - with 19's there's perhaps a bit more harshness over certain things but overall it is superior.
The F20/21 M135i, especially with M-adaptive, seems altogether a bit more comfortable as regards ride than either - even the M3 with EDC. I thought the 911 Carrera, and the 911C2S with PASM on soft for that matter, rode pretty well too - tyre thump being more an issue than actual harshness.

I'd say: get a M135i with adaptive suspension.
You will have the comfort mode (for your back injury) but still can swap occasionally to the sport setting for spirited driving. I had a full M (1 series M coupe) and found the ride a bit harsh. Sold it after 6 months, and have M135i on order now. I test drove it for 2 hours, the comfort is excellent. Don't get the runflats though. Bad for your back. |

911 is much stiffer than 135i. I have driven 911 on normal roads, its just too bumpy and the PDK gearbox isn't what I called smooth.
M3 is stiff too but not as bad a 911. My folks have a 911, even my folks prefer sitting in my M135i.

The M135i has at least the same engine dominion, has better practicality, better confort, has a trunk, better efficiency, has a rear seat, costs less than half the price, half of the maintenance. Do your self a big present and buy the M135i xDrive today! You'll never regret. |

Yup, just traded in my 997 C2S for an F21 and it feels epic. No rear end dramas, no worrying about speed bumps and incline/decline angles taking off your nose. Turbo acceleration and flatter torque curve will change your driving style. So too will the neutral pointy steering.
You will miss the curves, you will feel much higher up, you will have to deal with a bit of roll and you'll notice how other drivers won't notice you at all. But unless you're precious about the glamour of the Stuttgart badge as a driving experience the M135i is a great all-rounder and is an absolute blast. Buy it!

I had an M3 with both adaptive and standard dampers. The M135i is much more compliant than either. OP I'd have thought just getting in/out would be a whole lot easier in the 1er.
