iPhone/iDrive problems

I have problems playing stuff from my iPhone (spotify, BMW app radio etc) in my new 116d. I can play from the internal library without problem, but if I try and and play fx Spotify, the car system will play something like 2 seconds of the selected and restart playing from the internal library (iPod).

Quite annoying as I prefer listening to spotify or radio.

NB the problem only arises when I use the ipod connection cord (the white iPhone cable). When I connect through bluetooth I dont get the problem, but that connection is very unstable and is struggling to play a full song without scratching.

Anyone else have experienced this? All help is appreciated as its driving me crazy

1st thing to do, is to upgrade your BT soft to the latest version.

Here you are: http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...update_vin.jsp

See the post above yours. That's where you can find out the latest version from BMW, and how to identify which version you have. If yours is not the latest, download onto a USB from the BMW site, and load into the car via the USB in the glovebox. But you might want to get the dealer to do this; it ought to be a standard, no charge item at service (I'm always optimistic )

Not sure if there's a workaround for this, but I don't like how I'm only notified audibly if I receive a call whilst my phone (iPhone 5) is connected. There's no audible notification for SMS or calendar reminders.

Any ideas?

I tend to ignore these while driving, but I've noticed SMS notifications appear as an envelope icon on the Nav screen. I think you can have them read out using the voice command "Office Today"

Interesting, I've not noticed that. Do you have business or professional nav? Perhaps it only works on one or the other.

Ive updated the software but still have the same problem. Basically, i can listen to spotify in two ways in my car
1) via Bluetooth - connection is bad and skips frequently - have no idea why - would have thought connection would be strong enough to support playing through spotify (has anyone else had this experience?!?)
2) connect via the USB cable in the armrest (i would prefer this solution) but every time i try and start the spotify player it autostarts the ipod and that happens even when i force exit it and try to restart the spotify player

Its really annoying as i enjoy listening to spotify, so if anyone has had the same experience - let me know.

How about using the minijack plug? Works for me.

I just paired another iP5with my car, to check on this for Matt (see http://f20.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=862053)

Both our iP5s connect by USB, and I can play Pandora and TuneIn radio via the cable. I can jog ahead a track at a time, using the iSrive controller. BUT, if I use the steering wheel control, it reverts to my iTunes music on iPhone.

As posted eaelier, i have Bus Nav and I haven't updated BT software since delivery in April. My s/w version is TX/MX-003.004.031

Yep, identical issue. Fine through bluetooth, but as soon as I start to charge, it defaults to my library of music and Pandora won't even engage.

So it's when the phone starts to charge? Hmmm, I'm not sure how that might be a factor. I can certainly see mine in charging, but it doesn't affect my Pandora playback

Another glitch occurred tonight when I started to make a work call and Pandora started to play doof doof. Ah yes.
