I think the Subie will outsell the Scion due to branding, as well. I think they may end up with differant suspension tuning, so we'll see. I don't think it will be easy to hit $30k from my talk with the rep at the show. Should be easy to get the important sport bits (like Alcantara/Leather seats) for close to 26k MSRP.

200HP on a 2700 lbs car is not too bad. Look at the praise the 328i is getting with 240HP and 3400lbs. They will definately be coming out with a higher output engine and if not, then the aftermarket should be able to get another 20-40hp easily, then is should be plenty brisk.

Kinda like a permanant hard top S2000 or Miata.

I do not understand why this car is so badly recieved from the BMW owners and fans. I have always dreamt of one day owning an M3, but I could not manage to afford the M3 E92. I have been waiting for such a car, not a fast one but a car that is fun like the original M3 E30. I have been waiting for the Z2 but it did not come. The BRZ/GT86 a better track car than anything BMW has to offer right now. If you want fast laptime, so you better get a Prosche than a BMW or even a GT-R. I do not need 500 PS, 200 PS are enough for alot of fun for little price. Seeing all these negative comments about a car that Chris Harris has loved very much, I can understand why BMW has no interest in building any M CSL or any Z Coupé, but prefere heavy weight M5, X5 M, X6 M, 5 GT and even FWD 1 Series. BMW will have only on Z car, the Z4, and soon 5 X cars, X1, X3, X4, X5, X6 and maybe even X7.

Just wait a couple years and buy a used one for half the price. Then just beat the living crap out of it at the track.

The BRZ is not for anyone. Not anyone will appreciate the light, agile, lower center gravity type of car.

I hate to say this, but alot of BMW owners are over their heads. They are so cocky that they think BMW is the ULTIMATE DRIVING MACHINE.

I have owned 3 bimmers up till now. E36 M3 coupe, E39 540i M-Sports and my current E90 335i. Of course, we all like powerful cars. But I cannot even go WOT with the 335i without breaking the speed limit within like 2 seconds (local street of course.)

The 335i just feels so heavy and just not as fun as the E36 M3.

I really missed my E36 M3 with just enough power. Pulling the motor to the redline and feel so light driving around. And the E36 M3 weights in @ 3200 lbs.

As long as the BRZ keep its weight around 2700 lbs, the car should be heck of fun to drive.

As a 1M owner and coming from a Cayman I quite understand what you are saying... and Randy Pobst for that matter (I don't hate you man! ).

Where the 1M excels over the competition is in its ability to go sideways... in every way! It's always a challenge to drive as it really shows you are lacking the necessary skills, so you always find yourself pushing the envelope each time a little further... You don't want to tame its behaviour with aftermarket mods, you just want to master it as it is DSC off! It makes you want to be a better driver.

When I'm not driving it, I wish I was driving it... it's that good!

Everyone who appreciates a driver's car will appreciate the light, agile, lower center gravity type of car.

There's no replacement to it! No way... a little thing called physics.

I know exactly what you mean. I really miss being able to row through the gears without committing a felony by 4th.

Exactly! There comes a point when being as quick as a 335i/135i doesn't matter unless you drag the car. The reason I got a manual and the 128i was for the enjoyment of driving and the part of having to work for the power.

Don't get me wrong tho, a 128i is just as capable of reaching illegal speeds in 2nd if not 1st just as the 135i is.

That is why I am now moving to a car that handles like a dream like the s2000.

Wow, what a piece of junk right? It's not like it's a BMW or anything- how could you even fathom buying this? It's going to be a track monster, cost less than a civic Si, and most likely end up as the next "Miata" of track cars.

Of course- it's garbage, because it's nothing compared to a used 35k M3. Ugh, we drive BMW's- not supercars.

After the F1 Chinese Grand Prix I feel very comfortable with my two favorite drivers:

1. Nico Rosberg
2. Kamui Kobayashi

As for the rest... I keep the above order!

I read they are coming out with an STI version. There is no room for a turbo but subaru is going to add performance parts and make it lighter.

Wow I cant wait till this comes out. Owning a E30 M3. I miss the light feeling of throwing into a corner and finding that balancing act of drifting and grip. One car that can make you look and feel like a superstar. What alot of people miss that on the track.. power isnt everything. You get into a tight course. Say bye bye to your 400-500hp and these 200hp little cars are pushing you. I cant wait till this is out. I can only imagine what kind of track toy this will be. I might have to buy one lol.

http://www.subaru.com/brz/2013/index.html

I'm a die hard car fan, and more specifically, a BMW fan. And even more specific yet, an ///M fane. I'm 32 and I've owned a '78 320i, '89 325i, '91 M5, '98 M3, '07 335i and now my '11 M3. I've owned many other makes/models, as well, but always long for BMW's, and specifically M cars.

I'm posting here to "crazy" check myself with likeminded people.

I miss, in my "under" powered cars, like my 325i, the feeling that I could drive it to the max of its capabilities on the street, out in the bluffs, on and off ramps, etc. Now with the incredibly high capabilities of modern cars, like my M3, I always feel like I need to be restrained. The speeds the car is capable of are so immense, that I have trouble finding anywhere but a track to use them. But tracking a $60k+, brand new car, seems a little wacky to me. I'll do it, just like I did with my 335i, but I mean, god forbid I crash on the track. What about the costs track insurance, track pads, tires, all more expensive on a car like this.

Well, then the new Subaru BRZ caught my eye.

Classic sports car looks, with a sexy silouette that reminds me of a Datson 240z, but brought into the modern erra. There's something almost Aston Martin-esque about the design, like a Japanese Aston.

Then there's the engineering... Lower center of gravity than a Boxter, a few hundred lbs shy of 3000, standard 6 spd MT, RWD, standard LSD (are you listening BMW!!!), 200 HP flat four, hung low in the chassis.

All this for not much more than a Honda Civic Si!! Seems like a perfect budget track car/weekend toy. I'm sure it doesn't get the blood stirring or have the practicality of the M3, but it may be even more rewarding to drive in a world with limits and when money matters. If they can add more power without adding much more weight, it could be exceptional.

So, my M3 brothers and sisters. Am I off base, is it just an underpowered buzzing bee flying around my head? Or is it the real deal, the first affordable pure sports car of this generation?

Crazy check away!!
I agree 1000 times over. Honestly I have been considering something to replace my e36 328i for a daily and I am probably going to go with this.

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/04/25/s...-new-document/

Also at 26k it comes with Nav Bluetooth and HIDs according to autoblog. The only real options I would want anyway. Perfect car as far as I am concerned. I love my e30 beater and my e36 is nice but lately I have been driving my e92 more and more. I don't want to rack up the miles but I want something a bit nicer and fun to drive. I thought about another e36m but I already know if I do that again Im going to strip it and track it just like I did last time lol
