Jalopnik says it looks like an "Angry Bird".

The exterior design is horrible. The current 1 series looks so much better. No need to trade the current car in for this guys.

Glad I bought a current 135i... the new exterior design is a disaster. The 5 series GT has a similar oversized kidney grill and it looks terrible... it looks like this is the direction BMW is going, same for the X3.

I like the interior.

I kind of like it. The interior is leaps and bounds better than the current 1.

Hideous. Wow, I had hopes for a smaller BMW but I guess I need to move on.

BMW is ruining their lineup one car at a time.

I really love it! Seriously...I love the look, very modern. I have a 135i now, and I think this is great new generation. I wish it was coming here. This car makes much more sense for me than a coupe. Unfortunately, BMW is not giving me any options for a premium hatchback. Great job, BMW!

UGLY

Looks like my 2009 BMW 135i will be my first and last BMW. I think I'll keep it a good while longer now.

I think the same makeup artist for "Friday 13th - Jason in Space" (to be released in 2013) penned this design.

Might be one of those cars you have to see in person. I personally didn't like the headlights on the new F01 7 series when it debuted in the pics, but when I saw it in person I fell in LOVE.

The rear end lights look like a nice progression of the 318ti. But I also see the similarities to the VW Polo.

I can see BMW will do what no other car company has done, outgoing model year outselling incoming model year.

What the hell is the M2 going to look like? 1M owners hit the lotto.

I thought the current 1 wasn't exactly a looker, but this takes the cake. The front end is horrendous, especally the headlights, which we cannot simply cure with an M sport body kit...

The posterior, is more acceptable, and the interior is great, but the front end kills it

bro it looks like they made it in china

and about the AMG sure the designing is much better than BMW M///

EU Pedestrian legislation has changed car design and the 1er conforms to the latest and future legislation.

The 1er for BMW is a Compact car, and thus in europe you can have a 116i just as later we will get a 135i Sporthatch. If that is what you term "econobox" in the US then you have no worries - The 1er Sporthatch will not be coming to North America. I like the car even though I seen it years ago.

What I like about it is that it now showcases identity. In a segment where everyone looks to the benchmark "VW Golf" BMW designers went another route. In reality the car is striking and really brings out all the visible design features in Titanium Silver and lighter metallics. I like the headlights because they are influenced by camera lenses and of course they resort to the latest LED technology. The interior is very premium - quality now is on a higher level and the large fixed screen gives a Premium feel from the larger 6er - The 3er also receives the same idea. Material quality now uses grained high quality plastics and of course leg and head room is much improved for rear passengers. The rear of the car is simple evolutionary design from the E87. BMW 1er (F20) was designed back in 2006/2007.

To make an informed decision you have to see the car for itself.
Yea, we saw it, and it's U-G-L-Y.

You honestly, HONESTLY think this looks good?

Well, old chap, as for using VW Golf as a benchmark, I think BMW needs to be doing it. One case in point...
Golf R32 and the BMW 130i were not direct rivals.

Your version looks way better, but the way it is now it has a weird greenhouse to lower-half-of-car ratio. The styling itself is gorgeous but the proportions are weird. I really wanted another 1 series after I wore mine out too much but I guess I'll just keep mine.

The interior is perfect though, minus the red accents.

Hmm...I love the current 1 series but I think it looks horrible if you look at it head on and on some lower angles. Same thing goes with the F20 1 series, it looks hideous head on but I liked some of the corner shots. The rear I dont care about since it wont be coming to the US. All it needs is the m-sport bumper and were good

The kidney grills looks like its a crossover of X1 & 5erGT, and the headlight design looks rather alike with the Audi A1.. interior looks superb, and does anyone know if the nav screen folds away when the vehicle is switched off??
