Tailgate and screen seems to be covered with slime

I drove about 500km in the rain and now my entire rear end has some kind of slime/oil mixture. Is this from the exhaust spewing back or something?

Even before this trip, I've sometimes noticed that the rear window has a slicked look when looking at it through my sunglasses. I thought I was maybe using a contaminated sponge but seems like the reason could be elsewhere?

It's from the road, of course. Watch your step.

Polarized sunglasses let you see "infrared reflective" glass. It's usually windscreen though.
