My new 118i Urban
OK, so I've had my baby for a week, and finally found some time to shine her and take a few pictures.
I considered about 6 different cars in stock from all over South Africa, but really wanted a white Urban line with turbine wheels. Eventually, after about a month of looking around, one popped up - I took it immediately! Specs: 118i Urban manual Metro interior, silver/pearl grey Gloss black trim Matt oxide silver highlights Professional radio with iDrive Hands-free with USB connectivity Front fog lamps 381 17" Turbine wheels Here's a mix of night and day-time pics, including the obligatory urban blue interior lighting.... |

Thanks! I think you're going to love yours with these wheels, I had a look at your updated spec, it's looking good, fully loaded!
Urban line was my first choice all along, the little details like the metro upholstery, white/silver grill and alloy plates on the doorsills really do add that "this is awesome" final feeling to it. It provides a lot of enjoyment to me when I get into the car, which is what it's all about. That, and the blue Urban lighting when you unlock the car at night - I get "whoah, that's cool!' comments every time I pull this party trick |

I can't wait to have it delivered!!
Is the blue lighting standard with the Urban line then? I missed that bit going through all the specs. I'm sure I'll find out more in the meantime... |

Yep, it's a hidden gem and standard, you access it as a setting in your iDrive menu. You can set lighting to either "Classic" or "Urban", classic being the BMW orange. It applies to the main cabin light, the courtesy lights on the B pillars above the seatbelts, the centre console light just above the cupholders, and I think (if I remember correctly) the lights in the footwells.

What about the white leather seats in terms of care & maintenance...?
Do you think daily tear&wear will affect them any more than to darker tones? |

For interest's sake, the Metro combination is not actually real leather, it's Sensatec. I was told originally that it's leather, but if you reach underneath the seat from behind, you can feel the synthetic lining on the backside of the panel. It's not necessarily completely negative, as Sensatec is much more hard-wearing than leather (and thus the positive answer to your question), but I was a little disappointed when I discovered this. |

The Professional radio is actually not any different to the Business version, it simply has the addition of the iDrive controller and screen.
As far as sound quality goes, it's OK, but not stellar. The lack of dedicated tweeters definitely lets it down, in my opinion. My previous car (a 2009 Renault Megane) had a far superior sound system standard, quite simply due to a dedicated set of tweeters on the dashboard. The Professional setup is fine for everyday radio listening and music, maybe I'm just being too much of an audiophile (I'm a bit of an AV nut, so biased ). Quite curious to hear what the HK system sounds like for comparison purposes. iDrive is awesome and definitely worth it though, being able to use it to scroll through songs from a USB stick plugged in underneath the armrest, as well as browse phone contacts and dial, is a great feature.
