Just test drove an M2. Now I understand why it is being compared to the 1600/2002 model. I think BMW will be building a lot of these cars. A game changer! But nothing like the way the 02's shook America at a time when performance cars were in decline.

Is there a Forum for the Neue Klasse cars?

Loved it all except for the touch screen and the audio system. They went through all the effort of getting period correct stuff (even the awesome wheels) and shove that stuff in there?

Remember reading about this in European car. Nice and clean build. Resto mod is the best class of car when done right. Rare, fast and beautiful.

I remember seeing a few 2002's when I was stationed in Germany in the early 90s. They always turned my head! A restomod version would be nice to have... Most of all, I appreciate the reason behind the build!

No there is not. This site needs a Classics menu! With a sub-menu of the old chassis numbers.

I asked over two years ago about an 8 Series forum here.

Had three 2002s back in the day - a 1970 model in Bristol Grey, a 1972 in Colorado yellow, and a 1975 in Mintgrun. The 1972 was the best of the three. Unfortunately, none were ti's or tii's.

Would be awesome to have that extra stuff if it was a daily driver...

I built a resto-mod also finished this year. Have to love the 2002's classic lines.

The Forgotten BMW.

Great post. The BMW 2002 is definitely the car that kick-started the BMW cult in the states.
With affordable 2002s becoming more and more scarce, unspoiled 320i survivors like this one represent a compelling alternative for those who wish to own a vintage BMW that can still be obtained at an affordable price.
This my daily driver while I wait for an airbag replacement on my 1 series.

Quote:
The 320i will never be as revered as the 2002; its place in BMW’s history and the circumstances surrounding its creation will simply never allow it. But that doesn’t mean that the 320i shouldn’t be appreciated in its own right. It’s a wonderful little car in many aspects, and one that embodies many of the attributes that BMW enthusiasts have traditionally held dear: smart styling, impeccable ergonomics, entertaining handling and an overall “fun to drive” quality that so few cars possess (particularly those engineered in the 1970s).

This car was featured in the March 2016 Roundel magazine for BMW CCA. Great video, such a cool car. Definitely one of the classics. Thanks Dackel.

Resto-Mod '02 with a M2 drivetrain...

The other day I was listening to The Smoking Tire's Podcast... Jonathan Ward of Icon(those Toyota FJ guys) is thinking about building a 2002 with all M2 drivetrain components. Sounds like a really cool project.

If you have some time... listen to the show...

The car was built specifically to showcase Clarion products, what did you expect them to use??
