125d with 'flat' first gear?
My car has reasonably good torque, but what if found is that in first gear there is virtually none. It feels flat, like a 2.0 non turbo
Am i imagining things or has anyone else noticed this ? Or could someone tell me their experience of torque through the 1st and 2nd gears? thanks |

Quote:
1) The torque is limited in those gears from the factory. 2) Inertia is stealing lots of power in low gears. Too heavy flywheel. |

Guessing your car is pretty new. It will get better. I'm on 7.5k miles now and it's a different animal.
In saying all that. 1st gear is pretty shit due to the reasons above. It's a bit better in sport but still pretty nasty. To be honest, first gear is only really needed if you want to hit the factory 0-60. Even then it is just to gwt you moving the first couple of meters. Unlike any other diesel I've driven the 125d can easily pull away in second.

Judging by the sport displays, the 125d is limited to 360nm torque in 1st gear, and 420nm in 2nd gear. I don't know if this is for traction reasons or for mechanical reasons.

You might want to check out my "125d experiment" thread on the other forum.
