Auto start stop function problem
Hello everyone,
I have one problem with auto start stop function. Namely, yesterday I have installed cobra alarm system in my F20, at local cobra dealer. After that I have noticed problem with auto-start stop. When car stops after driving, for example on cross-road, engine goes off regulary and on RPM is showed READY. Problem is when I press the button to shut down the auto-start stop system, in the time when engine is shutted down by auto-start stop function. Pointer on the RPM goes to 1 and automatically goes down, and engine is still shuted down, there is no any sounds of the engine. After that, iDrive screen shows message about ignition problem, and to contact a local BMW service... After that I have to press regular start stop button to start the engine. I have to mention that engine goes on regulary when I press clutch after stopping the car. Anyone had similar problems or knows how to solve this? Thank you! |

I'm not sure I understand, when the engine shuts off, you don't press anything to get it to come back on, you only put your foot on the clutch. That's normal. No need to press the start stop button, that's to disable the system entirely.

I know that engine will go on when you press the clutch and that works fine. But, before the instalation of cobra, when the engine is auto stopped, if I press the off button of auto start stop then the engine goes on automatically. You can try on your car.
Regardin second question, I didn'pt order BMW alarm and the insurance company didn't want to insure my car without the alarm. |

This is whhat happens when people who do not knwo mess with the electrics and electronics of new cars. The new cars are so sensitive in any alterations, that most car electricians have no idea what they are doing. I am sorry I cannot help yoou anymore...I believe the problem is with the alarm and probably the installation. Only an authorised BMW dealer can plug the car to diagnostics and check where is the problem and what is the cause.

when my auto stop/start is activated and i stop at traffic lights the engine will shut off and the rpm will show in the "ready" state. If i then press the auto stop/start button it then turns the car off moving the rpm needle to "off". I generally do this when i stop out side my house and the auto. Using the clutch is the only way to start the engine when the car is in ready on the rpm.

Here's the answer BMW gave my friend when he did something similar, and I am sorry it is as follows,
Remove whatever after market alarms or devices you have installed before we can perform diagnose on you car. It is because the wires and/or codes from aftermarket devices can interfere with exiting electronics. I am sure you are aware of it already. My friend ended up removing everything he installed after market (alarm, rear camera, DVD) before BMW even touch his car. Best wishes for you. |

I have been at the BMW service this morning and they have said that this is normal because you should not press the off button of auto start/stop when the car is in standby mode.
Before I have installed the alarm I have checked if my guarantee will be void at the local BMW dealer. They have advised that everything is ok and they allow installation of the cobra alarm. |
