Mini JCW... oh shit...
So while I was visiting my dealer this afternoon, they just got a 2016 Mini JCW 6MT with 10k miles in trade.
Took it for a drive and got ambarassingly close to making them an offer on it. What a blast! I left really impressed. Interestingly it took me a whole 5 minutes to find a perfectly comfy seating position, as opposed to a year in case of my 135i I must admit that I feel guilty and somewhat ashamed. I swear my 1er looked teary-eyed parked nearby as I was driving away in that little green fire-breathing monster But I came back and took her home, so hopefully I will get lots of love in return. MINIs are a little odd in how they are perceived by others. Most think they're just a chick or gay vehicle...few really get it what it is and what they're capable of and drool over it. The car handles on rails...I'd get it!

I have always liked those. But I am always drawn to small, fast cars. Like: RS3, S3, Golf R, 1/2 series, ATS etc.

Was just thinking of my R53 JCW 6sp the other day and why I ever sold it!

Love my MINI.
Need to get it back up and running, though. Had it since brand new in '02. Less than 10 miles in the odometer, now it's over 240k (don't know for sure 'cause the pixels in the speedo stopped working... lol). Build Thread - Leo. |

I enjoy driving my MINI Cooper S FAR more than any of the 6 BMWs I’ve owned. I don’t miss owning a “real” BMW at all.

Ah the Mini JCW...a car after my own heart. Love them. Have never owned or even driven one but it is a car that screams "fun" even when standing still. I recently signed up for an upcoming Mini demonstration and HPDE day at the local track sponsored by a Mini dealer in the area so I can drive one of these. I also plan to go back to the M School and do a Mini day in the coming months.
Wife and I have talked about buying one for years. We might just do that as a second car for her. She drives a GX460 and having something fun to drive would be nice for a change.

I loved both my my JCWs, but after 10 years in them I bought my 1er. 6 months later I bought another R53 mcs, so now I have both. I get the raw fun of the R53, and the refined beast of the 1er. Good pair

The design on the F56 is just too polarizing for me. I've had a R53 and R56, but the design and size will keep me away. Enjoyed my time and miss it, but not going back.

As a former owner of a RMW Tuned R56 Cooper S, I can tell you they are fun cars. I dynoed mine at 230hp. Fun, fast but not a drivers car like a e90 or even my e87. My e87 118i will out corner a mini any day. My e90 335i will destroy my e87. The mini was the only car that I was not even a bit sad when I handed the keys over to the dealer for trade in. In a town the mini is a great car, if you are a long distance commuter, it leaves way too much to be desired.

I love small cars.
In fact, I always bought a smallest car I could comfortably fit into. And while the 135i is actually comically small compared to any other recent BMW, hell, any recent car for that matter... it sure does not feel like it. I love its effortless power at any RPM in any gear and at any speed, but... it never feels light on its feet. Much like bigger, heavier cars. That makes it an excellent all-rounder including long-distance travel, but surprisingly sedate and heavy at times. That Mini in turn... it felt just stupid light and moved around with such ease. My daily commute is mostly city, so there - I seldom experience the obvious superiority of N55 and as much as I love my 1er I wish it was a little less "mature" in its character. Sadly I could not afford an M1 when new and much less now, when they are actually much more expensive. Hence the Mini itch... |

No worries , I'm still cool David . Because my Mini is my winter beater
Honestly... driving a Mini is like a religion with a Go-Kart steering feel .

You should try the Mini JCW GPs. It is on a whole another level in terms of performance and handling...Oh wait...we got a couple here...

Still a much smaller, lighter, more involving car and keeps the rwd aspect with the added bonus of a real LSD. Of course this all presumes you don't need a back seat. |
