and once you drive away, they will treat you like a leper if you should come back with questions about the car

at least thats how my dealer treated me, once the cash has exchanged hands they dont care

so the lesson is, ask the dealer every question you can think of before paying for the car

I got a little pack that had a list of everything I need to bring with me (pre-handover checklist), what types of payment they accept etc. Here is a summary ...

* Ensure you have insurance for your new car. You can take advantage of BMW's complimentary 7 day insurance. Call 0800 072 2307 (you'll need your BMW dealer code, your salesman can give you this)
* Bring both parts of your driving licence.
* Payment by cash and credit card is limited to £1000 per transaction.
* Cheque, bankers draft etc need to be presented six days prior to handover.
* Debit card is preferred.
* Bank/online transfer is by arrangement.
* P/x needs V5, MOT, spare keys, service books etc.

Hope this helps.

Drop by and see them, enjoy a free coffee and biscuit, and get them to go through it with you.

My dealer in Norway has even called me to see if I was happy with the car, and ask if I had any questions. Sounds like your dealer is more like like they were around here 10 years ago. They are a lot more customer focused now, aiming to make money from the aftermarket.

If you lease, you pay in advance (the day you pick up the car).

If you finance, you first payment is due 30 days after you pick up the car.

Nice to hear they got better customer service in Norway. I´ve bought 3 cars so far from this dealer, 325i coupe, 335i coupe, and my latest 118d. You´d think they would give better customer service to a returning customer but no.

Safe to say I won´t be going back to same dealer a 4th time...

My dealer, Bavaria, is the biggest one in Scandinavia, and I think they are also expanding to Sweden and Denmark. They already have a dealership in København.

If you pay by finance then you'll be asked to go into your dealer 3 or 4 days before handover to sign documentation, etc..
