Mandatory Optionals

Hi All,

There's probably a thread about this already but I thought it would be great to see what people currently driving 1 series thought would be mandatory optional extras?

I'm going next week Saturday to my local BMW dealership to build and sign the paperwork for a new 118i. What is everyone's thoughts and opinions on the optionals you've got on your BMW's?

Mandatory: M-Sport package, xenons, non run flat tyres of equal size front/rear.
There are also some things that can be nice, but not really necessary.
(Rear PDC, DAB radio, cruise control, dark windows and so on)

@ Ovekvam: why it's better to have equal size on front/ rear tires on a RWD car?
Why would BMW put different sizes?
I understand having same size tires on a FWD car..

Black panel display. A cheap option that should be standard.

Edit: A few pictures in this thread. The standard display looks really dated.

The car has pretty much 50/50 weight distribution, and does not need wider rear tires. The balance is better with a square setup. With wider tires there seems to be some understeer.

BMW puts wider rear tires because it looks good without causing too much tramlining with wide runflat front tires. And understeer seems to be safer for rookie drivers, as it makes them drive slower.

It is also nice to be able to rotate the wheels from front to back if they don't wear evenly. Or to be able to put the wheels with the most vibration at the back.

Cruise control, if not already standard....

I use the car daily, and it keeps me from speeding tickets and seems to be kinder with fuel consumption. Long-ish drive every other week....

I get better fuel consumption with the cruise control off, particularly in hilly areas. But I agree that it is comfortable to use it. I can watch the traffic instead of monitoring the speedometer all the time.

The braking function hurts economy on BMW's when using cruise.

On my VW cruise is always more economical but it will coast down hill, the BMW will brake down hill and power up it. Good for maintaining speed but not good for economy.

For me the following are mandatory for any car:

1. sunroof,
2. xenons,
3. seat warmers,
4. keyless entry
5. good sound system
6. integrated sat nav

I've been told Adaptive suspension should be mandatory which I selected just to try it out.

Thanks for all the help everyone. One last question. Will my BMW come with iDrive touch?
I am ordering the professional navigation.
