Air Con Smell

My air con smells when it first turns on when engine started for about 10-20 seconds, smells mouldy or dusky.

does anyone know where the filter for the air con is on our cars? or where the drain plug is to see if that is clogged?

thanks

If there is a mould buildup then an A/C service and disinfect is the way to go as it will be affecting more than just the filter.

Keeping it on all the time helps keep it in good shape.

For me it's a recurring problem.

BMW told me it's because our weather is too humid.... I had the air filter replaced, but the problem comes back.

My friend's 520d has the same problem. We can only open the window when we first turn on the AC to get around the problem. Hope you have better luck~

You have to ask your dealer to clean the evaporator.
I believe they have to open the dashboard to do that, not a simple job.
I think it's under warranty though.

There is an aerosol treatment , I think Halfords sell it , you leave the engine running with the AC on full and set the aerosol off in the car, with doors and windows shut. ( no one in the car ) on recirculate ,and it fumigates the AC system , that's how the specialist companies do it
