What and why?

As we all know the choice of colour we pick for our cars is personal preference...

What colour did you choose and why did you decide on it? Did you regret it?

I've ordered AW, but already questioning my decision!! I may switch to EB today I initially stuck with AW due to cost & the Mrs!! But £10 a month isn't really breaking the bank...

For me, black and white are both out of the question from practical reasons. Black cars look scratched very easily, and white cars look dirty ten minutes after they have been washed. All shades of grey/silver are too boring. It ended up as a choice between Estoril Blue and Valencia Orange. Both look good, but orange stands out more, and I like how the tone of the colour changes with the light. My wife also likes orange, so it was an easy choice. I do definitely not regret it.

Valencia Orange, and for pretty much the same reasons as ovekvam. It stands out from the crowd and looks fantastic in the right light.

I was looking for a slightly used F20 and after I saw a VO in the flesh I had to narrow my search
Luckily it didn't take long before the right one turned up.

I've just changed my order to EB!!

The Mrs realised this morning that I've gone on about the colour for so long that I'll be kicking myself if I don't get it now!

Had White for last 3 cars, so I think a change will be good. I was torn between EB & MG in the optional colours!

AFAIK BMW considers the Glaciersilber as the "reference" color

My M135i is AW as well. Sometimes I regret it and wish that I've choosen the Glaciersilber, which I think looks marvelous in reality. Much better than in the configurator.

You say white cars look dirty instantly I disagree completey. I had a white car for 6 and a half years. During that time, the gap between washes got wider and wider. Partly due to not being fussed and that was because it never looked that bad. Dark colours are for sure ones to avoid for this. I wouldn't go black. For me the colour was between the VO I have and love or the Mineral Grey. What put me off the grey is how fast they look dirty.

EB is a good choice
Like the VO, It also changes in the light. I love it
Estoril Blue was created as a unique M colour. It is named after a racing circuit in Portugal. It is thought to be the colour of the early morning sky seen at Estoril.
As is Valencia (circuit in Spain) from the Orange.
Some believe it to be the colour shade that Motorsport had the most success with in the open racer days (a similar colour was used to paint the number on).
Altantis Blue, Monte Carlo Blue, Lemans Blue, and Interlagos Blue were also named after circuits.

You can go on and on with that list...

Sakhir Orange, Silverstone Metallic, Yas Marina Blue, Austin Yellow, Donington Grey, Dakar Yellow, Melbourne Red, Long Beach Blue, Singapore Gray....

Avusblau and Nogarosilver as well.
Are you sure Atlantisblau is named after a race circuit?

I agree with you here as well. Have had two white cars AW E87 an Pepper White Cooper S. Very easy to keep clean I must say.

Black is another story, but i think the F20 looks very good in black. It's worth it. If I was planning on keeping it for long I would maybe go for another colour.

I have the silver, and occasionally regret not daring to choose the valencia orange. But I don't really. It seems so important when you're buying, but really doesn't matter much in the end.

(The other colour I was considering was the Sparkling Bronze, but I didn't out of fear for what it might look like in reality. I've now seen one on the road and I think it looks awesome; had I seen it in the showroom it would have been a no-brainer decision.)

Atlantis blau could be a derivative of Avusblau
I am not sure. I was just explaining that BMW has a history of using circuit names for a colour.
It is listed as a BMW colour and does appear with circuit named colours, so perhaps it disappeared, changed its name or the name was just a racing colour derived from a lost city under the ocean.

I chose EB simply because my car must be blue (all the previous were, although initially I doubted between blue and grey). I like blue ("I have a girlfriend and she is so blue." ). Actually I would have preferred the more humble Deep Sea blue (someone here referred to EB as "pornographic" - well, there's a kind of a point ) but it was no option for M Sport package.

Yes, I did find the colour annoyingly expensive (like 800£) but my belief was there were things one mustn't compromise: "you can lose money but not dignity!".

No, I don't regret it although someone has deliberately scratched my rear wing (the car was parked correctly, no neighbourhood war) - it could've been worse.

AW, besides "screaming 'I was the cheapest!!!'" as someone noticed here , looks just bridal (I'm never looking for a husband ) and impractical to me: dirty white F20s I saw looked literally as if they'd shitted themselves although this can be region/season(winter) specific.

I used to have an E30 in Atlantisblau. It was non metallic, had no clear coat, and it was quite dark, darker than Avusblau.

I "chose" Mineral Grey for the same reasons mentioned above. Metallic paint is (hopefully) more scratch resistant and I just like that metallic look of it. Also, MG is very very nice color to my eye

I don't really like white cars, it's a bit like my wife says: they all look like taxis :P And also, they're soooo popular now at least here in Italy, so it would totally not stand out at all.

Non-metallic black in turn is difficult to maintain well (getting into detailing here.. already feel sorry for my wallet). Also, IMHO, the 1er looks even smaller in black, and the 5 door version does not have enough chrome trims or other details to contrast the black.

Anyway, MG was my number one choice for color right from the start, and then it just so happened that I found a good offer for car and it just so happened to be MG

Luckily it's not too common a color around here.

And here come those names, too... I really wonder if my next car could be painted "Long Bitch" but it does not look very likely yet.
