Pretty much what you'd expect.

Has there ever been a track video of any Tesla that wasn't just straight line acceleration? Seems like it and muscle cars are sometimes the same (both only do really well going straight) and at the same time the opposite (powertrain and fuel burned).

Lol. That's what it should be. Every car vs tesla video I see, the tesla driver hits the light perfect and the gas driver hesitates half a second. Z06, gtr, etc. It happened in the first run of the McLaren. The later runs were the what should happen every time with equal drivers.

Teslas lack of transmission and operating an induction motor deep into field weakening means torque at high speeds sucks. That's why the P90s are so quick off the line but aren't very potent once they are at freeway speeds.
Nonetheless it's pretty impressive when you think of the fact that the P90 is a people mover and the 650s is a no holds barred supercar (that also costs much more). |

Cost (manufacturing and warranty) and packaging. No transmission simplifies things greatly. While I'm sure they wish they had better high speed performance they probably think it's good enough, and that most normal consumers hardly notice (how often do most normal people go WOT for an extended period of time starting at freeway speeds?)

You'd have to do 4, but not a big clunker, just some way to increase the gearing. If someone designed one it would be bucks. And benefits for everyday drivers would be motor longevity and higher top end acceleration.

Not getting this. I was thinking if you're motor is at high rpms, it's making less torque, using more energy, and burning out faster. Is this incorrect?

Yes, exactly. It's a $120k car that will get its ass handed to it by a Mustang GT or most sport luxury sedans pretty much everywhere but at a stoplight.

Yeah perspective always varies. Mine is that this 5000+lb family hauler, at the very least, is competitive with some serious machinery from a dig. Say what you will about "one trick pony," but that's a pretty damn good trick. Could fit my twins giant stroller in there lol
