In the Continental Tire series, Trenton Hindman is driving the Fall-Line Motorsports M3 to current GS points lead:

And in the Street Tuner class, it is the BimmerWorld boys and their driver Tyler Cooke who is currently leading. Still, the BimmerWorld owner is livid over some of the new rules and regs that essentially consign their efforts to mid-pack status, at best.

The SRT Viper GTS-R of SRT Motorsports are returning to Watkin's Glen and with their old, traditional livery. Apparently they are now the Dodge Viper Racing Team. With the bright red # 91 and #93 will be hard to miss!

**On a side note, if you'd like to lease one and enter it in the WEC's 6 hours at the Circuit of the America's on 09/20/14, contact DVRT for details

We're getting closer!!

Ho-Pin Tung: “After a successful Le Mans 24 Hours with the OAK Racing Ligier JS P2 - HPD I am looking forward to make my USCC debut with the Morgan - Nissan LM P2. It will be my first visit to Watkins Glen and also first time using the Continental tires. OAK Racing, the car and driver line-up have been very successful in the championship so far and I hope to be able to make my contribution to continue to build on the podium finish of Detroit.”

This should make the BimmerWorld team happy:
(from sportscar365.com)

IMSA has handed out Balance of Performance adjustments to cars in the GT Le Mans and GT Daytona categories ahead of next weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

In GTLM, the newly re-badged Dodge Viper GTS-R has received a 15 kg weight break and 0.3 mm larger air restrictor for the third round of the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup.

No other changes have been made to the class.

GTD, however, sees a number of adjustments, mainly with weight and fuel capacity changes.

The Porsche 911 GT America receives a 15 kg weight break and 3 liter increase in fuel capacity, while both the Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 and Dodge Viper GT3-R each gain 10 kgs of weight, with the Viper now also running a 6500 rpm limiter.

The Audi R8 LMS gains 20 kg, while losing 2 liters of fuel capacity and the BMW Z4 GT3 gains 25 kg but is given 3 additional liters of fuel.

The only GTD car unchanged is the Aston Martin Vantage GT3, which received adjustments prior to the most recent round in Detroit.

No adjustments, meanwhile, have been published for the Prototype category. Any potential changes, per the IMSA rulebook, must be finalized by Friday night, in order for it to take effect for the upcoming Watkins Glen round.

DeltaWing will be driving for the first time in TUSC at Watkin's Glen this weekend!
DeltaWing was an ALMS team and the just hired a new team manager named Time Keene. Tim Keene used to be the manager for Chip Ganassi Racing and he brought the team 7 Grand-Am champhionships in 10 years.

For the race, Continental Tires had to create new tires for this unique car being that they are the exclusive tire provider for IMSA.

Here is an interesting article about this:

re: Lamborghini Trofeo:

Currently they are using Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradales

They will be replaced with a Huracan LP 610-4 Super Trofeo! This will be the first new car since 2009 when the series started with the Gallardo. This was just announced this month so expect them for the 2015 season. Watkin's Glen will still see the Gallardos racing. No photos or further info on the race-spec Huracan have been release yet....

"There's no word on specifications but the standard model has a 5.2-liter V10 engine that develops 610 PS (448 kW) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and an all-wheel drive system which enables the coupe to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds and hit a top speed in excess of 325 km/h (202 mph)."

The long break is over and BMW Team RLL heads to new territory in Watkins Glen for round five of the series

Munich (DE), 25th June 2014. BMW Team RLL will contest its first race at the classic Watkins Glen International circuit this weekend at the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen in round five of the 2014 United SportsCar Championship.

The series restarts following a seven-week break for teams competing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (FR). BMW Team RLL drivers Bill Auberlen (US) and Andy Priaulx (GB) currently lead the GTLM driver points and their number 55 BMW Z4 GTLM leads the team points standings. John Edwards (US) and Dirk Müller (DE), drivers of the number 56 BMW Z4 GTLM, stand sixth in driver points and eighth in team points. BMW is second in GTLM Manufacturer points, only two points behind Porsche.

In preparation for the race on Sunday, the team held a two-day test at the 3.37-mile, 11-turn road course on 21st and 22nd May with drivers Auberlen, Müller and Priaulx present. Completing a total of 207 laps, the critical test gave both Müller and Priaulx their first laps of the circuit that was home of the US Grand Prix from 1961 to 1980. Edwards did not test, having gained experience at the Glen in the recent Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge competition.

In past years, BMW teams have had success at Watkins Glen and the six-hour race. Most recently Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates raced to the overall win in 2010 with the number 01 BMW Riley and, in 2004, Auberlen and Boris Said took the GT win in a BMW Team PTG M3. Seventeen years earlier, in 1987, the first generation BMW M3 scored a one-two finish in the Firehawk Endurance Championship. Bobby Rahal, Team Principal, drove his very first Formula One race at WGI in 1978, finishing 12th. He also drove to two top-five finishes in International Race of Champions (IROC) in 1986-1988.

Bobby Rahal (Team Principal, BMW Team RLL):

“It’s exciting to be back at Watkins Glen, which is certainly one of the crown jewels of racing circuits in this country. It’s the first race for BMW Team RLL at Watkins Glen and we’re looking forward to it. We tested there recently, although the weather didn’t totally cooperate. There are a lot of high speed corners, which we’re pleased about, and there is a long straightaway, which we’re not so pleased about, but just to be back at Watkins Glen is important for BMW, our team and sports car racing. It’s going to be a tough race for sure, but it’s such a great circuit. A great-handling car can definitely make a difference there, so I’m hopeful we can take advantage of our strengths.”

Bill Auberlen (Number 55 BMW Z4 GTLM):

“This has been one of those amazing years and they are very hard to come by. We have managed to be on the podium all but once in the most competitive racing series around and it's all due to the incredible BMW Z4 GTLM, BMW Team RLL and Andy Priaulx. With some luck we can extend our championship lead coming out of Watkins Glen, which is one of the most incredible tracks in the world. It's going to be a gruelling six-hour fight to victory lane and we are more than prepared to get it done. I'm really looking forward to Watkins Glen and giving it our all.”

Andy Priaulx (Number 55 BMW Z4 GTLM):

“I’m very much looking forward to getting back to the Glen after what was a great test a few weeks ago, and crucially an ideal opportunity for me to learn this very challenging circuit. I would say that The Glen should suit our car; it’s a circuit that requires a good balance in order to fully commit to the high-speed corners. This is where the BMW Z4 GTLM is strong. Again, like all the races so far the year, we need to keep our head and score points and keep building our championship campaign. It’s going to be a long race with many cars on track and staying out of trouble will be crucial.”

John Edwards (Number 56 BMW Z4 GTLM):

“Watkins Glen is one of my favourite tracks in the country, and I'm really excited to be going there this year with the BMW Z4 GTLM. The car has quite a bit more downforce than anything else I've driven at Watkins Glen, so it should be an intense race. The BMW Z4 GTLM's strength also lies in carrying momentum, so it is a good thing that there aren't any slow corners leading on to long straights here. Dirk and I have had some bad luck in a couple races this season, which has put us behind in points, so we're ready to rebound and win some races the rest of this year, hopefully starting this weekend.”

Dirk Müller (Number 56 BMW Z4 GTLM):

“I’m looking forward to a great weekend with a big six-hour race. Watkins Glen is an incredibly quick and challenging circuit. We’ve had enough time to get ready after our break and all the batteries are charged and ready to go!”

PRESS RELEASE:

THE BLUE AND YELLOW TURNER BMWs BEAR DOWN ON WATKINS GLEN.

Amesbury, MA. – June 24th, 2014 -- One month after a hard-fought sixth place finish at the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic at The Raceway at Belle Isle in Detroit, the Turner Motorsport No. 94 Z4 GTD will once again take to the track for the fifth round of the 2014 TUDOR United Sports Car Championship. Round five brings the Turner Team to one of America’s most iconic and historic road courses, Watkins Glen International Raceway in Watkins Glen, NY for the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen.

Dane Cameron and Markus Palttala will pilot the blue and yellow Turner BMW Z4 around the legendary 3.4-mile road course during the six-hour test of endurance, looking to continue the team’s string of strong past performances at the track. In 2012 Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana placed the No. 94 BMW M3 GT on the podium with an impressive second place finish, and last year, the trio of Auberlen, Dalla Lana and Billy Johnson delivered a fourth place finish for the Turner team.

This will be Dane Cameron’s third consecutive Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen, the first behind the wheel of the Turner No. 94 Z4. In 2009 Cameron clinched a podium on the short course at Watkins Glen.

“Watkins Glen is one of the best racetracks we visit all year long, it has so much history and such great fan base that loves sports car racing. I think the high speed flowing nature of the layout should really play to the strengths of our Turner Motorsport Z4. The last few races have been short sprints so getting back into a longer six hour race will be fun and interesting to see how the strategies and driver pairings shake out over the long haul.” said Dane Cameron.

Palttala will make his first appearance at Watkins Glen International Raceway and is eager to experience the 11-turn course, adding another track to his ever-growing resume. The Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen will be Palttala’s third endurance race in as many weeks, and the shortest, following back-to-back races at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Nurburgring 24 Hours.

In addition to the Sahlen’s Six Hour on Sunday, Turner drivers Michael Marsal and Tom Kimber-Smith will take to the track on Saturday afternoon in the No. 97 GS M3 for the Continental Tire 150 at The Glen, the sixth round of the 2014 Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge.

Marsal and Kimber Smith bring lots of experience to Watkins Glen this weekend with the hopes of scoring their best finish of the season. As the duo put the difficult 6-turn Kansas Speedway behind them they focus on the more flowing and high speed nature of Watkins Glen International.

“We haven’t had the results we know we are capable of yet this year so Tom and I will work hard to turn that around this weekend. The Turner M3s are always strong here at the Glen to I am very confident of solid results.” said Marsal.

For Marsal this will be his fourth consecutive year racing at Watkins Glen in a Turner BMW. In his “rookie” season in a Turner BMW, Marsal scored second place with co-driver Joey Hand. In 2013 Marsal and co-drivers Gunter Schaldach and Pedro Lamy lead the Sahlen's Six Hour at the Glen in the Turner No. 93 GT M3.

The Continental Tire 150 at The Glen will take place on Saturday, June 28 at 11:30 am EST. Following the Continental Tire 150, qualifying for Sunday’s six-hour race will be broadcast live beginning at 3:55 pm on IMSA.com. The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen will be broadcast LIVE on Fox Sports 1, starting at 11:00 am EST.
