Newbie saying 'Hi' - F21 order being placed ASAP

Hi Guys and Girls,

Moved over to this forum from the E90 forum and thought I'd say 'Hello'. Been lurking for a few weeks, some lovely looking cars and some great/interesting advice

I'm going to be placing an order for an F21 M Sport in the next few weeks. Will def place some photos when she finally arrives!

Catch you soon.

Is that a british thing, calling your car a "she"? I barely ever encountered that anywhere else

Earlier this year there was a discussion on this forum about naming the car. I always thought of BMWs as masculine cars, but more than one gave it traditional German names like Gertrud or Helga!
Mine is just called "The 120" to separate it from my other cars. When a name, maybe Wolf would be it

I never ever named any of my cars ... I usually stick to the model or specifics when I talk about my previous cars to people who knew them. My current one is just.. car... bmw.. 1er..

Haha. Good point. I never give my cars names, I normally just go with "isn't she/it beautiful". but I think you are right, maybe it's quite a British thing.

There was a documentary on UK television a couple of years ago about people that actually fell in love with their cars! In a sexual way! Very very weird.

It's typically a British thing but is inspired by the French.

I always name my cars, I'm desperately trying to think of a German name for the BMW but can't think of one suitable

Hi all,
Some history:

You can blame the use of 'She' on the E Type Jag, that was the first car that was recorded using 'she' by the media as they discribed the body curves at the time.

It was then adopted by the motoring industry to discribe any good looking car.

The use of female names was an endearment of the 'She' after that for ownership.

Funny thing is, many people call their cars by a name, particularly when it has stalled at traffic lights or broken down on the motor way or Autobahn.

Any car, vehicle in Spanish language is always referred to as "el coche", "el carro", "el vehiculo"... i.e. male gender...
However, "la maquina" (the machine) is female...
