So you think it'll be cheaper to get the exchange here in US? we leave in two days and i doubt i'll be able to get Pesos from my local bank before then. I'll check what the exchange fee is, if i do it in Mex.

I hope i don't need to convert, i just want to go with and spend dollars, i don't have time and patience to convert.

Thanks
Your resort may be able to do the currency exchange for you or they'll direct you to a bank.

I believe anyone will be more than happy to take your US dollars, but just be careful of their exchange rates and that they don't rip you off.

There was a shopping mall/center near our resort, they all took credit card as well. That's another option.

Also note that for most of the water sports, excursions, etc. that you do, they usually expect some type of tip at the end in addition to what you paid. Just a heads up on that.

The resorts i have been to in Mexico usually have a US Dollar price and a Peso price for little items that you forget (sunscreen, toiletries, etc...). The Peso price is always cheaper. The restaurants/bars all will take US Dollars though with no issue as well as the workers that you tip. Also, most resorts will exchange your currency at the current rate at the concierge, and usually this can be done fee free.

I usually bring a few hundred in cash, then if i need more, I'll get it from the concierge. Also tend to not pay ATM fees if you go through them.

Ill take $400 cash. And bring my debit card for back up. I'd rather do everything in cash preferably USD

What are your plans?

If anyone has been to Cancun, do you have any recommendations? We plan on taking the Chichen Itza tour. If You're American, how did you manage your finances as in did you go with cash? Or did you use your credit/debit card?

Thanks
If you are doing Chizen itza, look into a private tour. don't do a tour bus! It is a 3+ hr drive there and it sucks! Then when you come back if you are dropped off last it is another 1-2 hrs for a total of 4-5 hrs! BUT the place is cool! Very much worth seeing. Try to get there early so you have time to walk around as we only saw maybe 1/2-3/4 of it!

Again, get someone to take you directly there, by car or van. I believe there might be tour guides for hire when you get there.

Re: money. Take what you think you need and then leave most in hotel safe and only take what you need for the day...all places will take your $ and exchange (at varying rates).

I would love to. Only problem is my companies fiscal year ends in May. I have not enjoyed a normal Memorial Day (or birthday) in 15 years. *sigh* At least I get Christmas and New Years, unlike many. Busiest time of my year. Sorry.
But dude, I get to Doral with some regularity. We should plan a meet. Had the E92 there a couple weeks ago and the F82 there last week. I usually chill at the Starbucks at 41st and 97th for a bit prepping. We should plan a meet up.

Been to Cancun 3 times. I just brought one credit card and took a good amount of cash ($300 or so) However, we stayed at All-Inclusive locations, so alcohol and food was taken care of. I used cash to tip servers (they take care of you more when you tip), buy souvenirs, or do something interesting. I went to check out the Chichen Itza and cenotes too.
