I am having difficulty finding an 8 Speed Auto 116i Demonstrator to test drive and would therefore appreciate comments as to whether or not the engine is considered powerful enough, when coupled with the auto box.

Also, any information about the average fuel consumption (Manual and Auto gearbox), would be appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi ..

I have got a 116i Sport with the 8 speed auto box...

No I find it totally fine as long as not driven in ECO PRO mode it kills the throttle way to much for the auto box.. In fact I was quote surprised how well it does actually drive as my previous car was a 523i auto.. For short distance or long it seems a very good setup, a massive improvment on the previous 1 series setup.. The MPG is around 40mpg after about 1500 miles...

Many thanks for your reply. I saw your comment in Driving Profiles and noted you had a 116i Auto. This prompted me to join and ask my question in the hope that you and others would respond.

I also noted that railbus at #1, in Driving Profiles, has a 116i with an unspecified gearbox so I hope that perhaps he can help me, if only to comment on fuel consumption, if his car is a Manual.

It is fine...actually the 116i with the Auto feels much quicker (or briskier) than the manual one. I find the car perfectly fine, towards quick...and I am coming from a Z4 2.5si auto.

Having driven an automatic 116i several times, I must say that it does not feel underpowered at all.

I was surprised that it feels almost as fast as a manual 118i.
