Software versions

Our car was recently at the dealer to have a software update. It had version 006.001.020 before, and 008.008.000 now. Is there any information on the net somewhere that tells what is new or changed in various versions?

The only difference I have noticed so far, is that it now says BMW in the instrument panel when the car is unlocked with the ignition off. I also have a feeling that the engine idle is higher just after starting the car.

Mine has always displayed BMW in the info display when unlocked, I'll see what software version is present. May be just a regional update.

The guys at the dealer said the service indicators were counting wrong in the software version I had, and that was the most important upgrade. It indicates longer time until I need to replace the rear brake pads now. The rain sensor software was also different, but I haven't tested it yet.

I had that issue and the software fixed it - my service indicator said I needed my rear pads replaced at 23000 miles from new before the update - now it will last until 36000

I also noticed the start/stop after the update is now dependent on the heater temp setting (non-climate at least) which it never used to be, and that with auto wipers, moving "downwards" on the stalk leaves it in auto mode (green light illuminated) and activates an instant single wipe... whereas before, a move down would transfer from auto to manual intermttent.

I think they also stopped the "kick" from changing from Comfort to Sport whilst accelerating (6MT) - which is a shame.

Mine says it wants brake pads in 1000 miles and it's only done 9000 miles, the update will fix this bug by the sounds of it.

Well, our car has 22000 km, and wanted new pads in 600 km. Now it says 1200 km, so not much of a change, really. But then again, due to quite a lot of track driving, the pads are probably rather worn by now.
