And you probably have to pay to keep maps and software updated anyway. I prefer my portable Tomtom that I can bring into any car I happen to be driving. It even has free lifetime maps.

Personally, I don't think it is worth spending the money on Sat nav.
When I ordered mine, I thought it would be a useful feature and enhance the resale so I justified the big ticket cost. I have the 'professional' option on mine which cost a packet to include the full screen with Sat Nav. Now BMW wants $399.00 just to update the maps. Considering that here in Australia it does not come with live speed camera warning, speed alert when active or half the other features of a Garmin (due to some obscure reason/s from BMW). It is a waste of money, when a Garmin, TomTom or Google maps have more features for less money than the cost of the update (let alone the Sat Nav option cost) and you can take it with you from car to car. As far as resale is concerned, there will be other features like LED lights more likely to be on the wanted list than this item. |

This is true, but as business GPS is standard in NZ the latest I've found is very good. The only thing I hate is the very slow 3g sim card which BMW install's in their latest cars. I've given up using it and gone back to my iPhone or iPad. If you need to find your car just leave your iPhone or iPad 4g in the car as it's a lot faster. Of course you the one with you.

Say "Farewell!" and leave the window open to avoid the extra damage of smashing.
Seriously, it's all right if New Zealand is a safe country, but in some other places it's only safe to take all the valuables with you (provided you can take care of them ) or, at least, hide them in the car really carefully. And yes, have the spare ones ready still. (I don't mean theft is any funny , it's just amazing there are different kinds of places in the world. ) |
