For this reason there was no 130i Coupé with the NA 3.0 I6 with 265 PS, but only the 125i Coupé with that same engine in 218 PS spec. This it will look like this for the top engines:
1/2 Series: 4 cylinders
3/4 Series: 6 cylinders
5/6 Series: 8 cylinders
7/8 Series: 12 cylinders
ONE problem with your theory...

The new F30 328i comes with a turbo four (N20) block.

Btw... last month parked next to BMW's FIZ building(and fairly far from the public street!) I saw a white F20 hatch that had three spoke(or maybe two spoke wheels - like in the above photo) with dual tail pipes. I'm pretty sure it was a 135i "test car". And... it looked GOOD!

On my list I put top engines. Of course there are smaller engines. As for the car you saw, I am sure it was the 128i F20 with the N20 in 245 PS spec.

There was demand for a E81/E87 Sporthatch 135i M-sport. But BMW kept it exclusive to the Coupe and Cabrio to elevate them as more premium over the mainstream hatches.

The 3dr 1er Sporthatch in F21 guise will see a 135i M-Sport variant as will the 5dr And then the next generation Coupe and Cabrio models arriving in 2013.

these new M designations, M*** is this a return to the old days when we had an M535i sitting below an M5? Of course those with an M535i would shorten that to M5 in polite conversation, so in real terms there were 2 M5s, the cheap one and expensive one. Quite confusing. Unless we go back to the e12 where the M535i was the proper and only M version.

Scott, what engine will be in the F2x 135i (if it will be exist)? 4 cylinder N20 or 6 cylinder N55?

I want

an M tuned 135
with x drive
coupe
diesel

M135xcd

Freaking alphabet soup!

I do see a SINGLE intermediate step between a regular 1 or 3 series and the M variant.

Either make that the M-sport, or make it the Mx35

But it is getting out of hand.

It's great and hot hatch but why using the M badge everynow and then? BMW M should stick to M3, M5 and M6!

How is it Scott? I thought N55 will no more be found in the 1 Series and 2 Series? How can the "235i F22" with FI 3.0l I6 and 320 PS be sold toghether with the M2 F22 with FI 2.0l I4 and ~300 PS? Even if there does come an M135i F20, it cannot have N55, only upgraded version of N20.

This is my main question also, what engine will be in the new 135i/235i? N55? It's confusing as the M2 has been rumoured to have a Turbo 4 cylinder engine. And yet it also doesn't make sense that the new F22 235i (if it had N20 engine) would be significantly slower than the old model E82 135i (N54/N55).

Could it be that we'll see a FI 2.0l I4 of 370PS for the M2 so they can use a tuned version of the N55 of around 320PS in the 235?

we know the new M3 is going to probably be a FI 6 cil pushing around 450 so I don't think a I4 370PS is too crazy....
remember the mysterious "Pyrat" 450hp engine?

Seems most of you forgot about the beloved E30 M3, it had a 4 cylinder with 190 (and later 215 and more) horsepower while the 325i had a larger 6 cylinder with only 170 horsepower.

It makes sense to me to have a 235i, M235i that is a bit sportier and looks different, and then an M2 with a lighter 4 cylinder in a lightened car with even more power and M suspension, steering, bushings, etc.

In this case, copying Audi's stratification with their A, S, and RS models is a good thing.

i mean the other series will keep coming with the N55 but with the 306HP we all know, so i mean that only this M135i will have a bump in power from the factory.

saludos!

BMW 328i F30 | 1505 kg | FI 2.0l I4 | 255 PS | 350 Nm | 0-100 km/h: 5,9 sec
BMW 335i F30 | 1585 kg | FI 3.0l I6 | 306 PS | 400 Nm | 0-100 km/h: 5,5 sec

328i is 6.000 € cheaper than 335i.

The I6 does not justify better performance anymore, compared to the I4, unless it has 640i F13 engine spec, 320 PS and 450 Nm. With this spec in the 1 Series it will enter 1 Series M E82 territory, what can not happen, as the M2 F22 has to be the top of all. The fact being in BMW model designation have nothing more to do with engines, there very well can be an M135i, but not powered by a N55 as we may think, but buy an M tuned N20 with close to 300 PS.

Now BMW maybe really decided to put N55 in the F20, but from what I know it cannot be. Time will tell.

Totaly agree!!! If they go that way they will *uck up the M brand!!! Few years ago when x5/x6m appeared i knew that one day we'll have all series M.

And what a shitty name for the new ///M3 coupe they will call it M4???!!! ((
M3 is legendary name of the car we all know. So why change for the m4 i can't even spell it

having 300hp in 335 M-sport and 320 in 135 doesnt make sense, although I am sure BMW would bump the hp on 335 in a year or two.
320 hp does sound good for 135M.. Love the 1 series...
