You should check out one of the Rokinon/Samyung 14mm primes for Milky Way shots. It's only $2-300 or so, and super sharp. Full manual focus only, but it's pretty easy with live view to focus. For a walk around you can set it to hyperfocal and basically just snap away everywhere with everything in focus. Lightweight, sharp, easy - I love mine.
