Factory Warranty in the US on a new imported BMW

Does anyone have experience importing European specd cars to the US (Germany country of Origin), what are the implications? Would factory warranty would apply to an imported vehicle if any?

Any input appreciated.

Instead of asking internet strangers, why not call BMW NA? If they say it's covered, get it in writing.

You can't legally import a newer German spec. vehicle into the US except as a track only car. It needs to be US specd to get through customs and be licensed.

X2. There are a number of cars sold in Europe that some would like to bring over but they don't meet our regulations. Companies making these cars don't want to go to the trouble of making these cars compliant and neither will you.

BMW has 2 year 24000mile international warranty. I checked when I took my BMW to Korea 3 years ago. Any other upgrade to warranty is only valid in the country you bought it from. Wasted $3000 on Maintenance upgrade plan that I bought it with the car.

here is a list of cars LESS than 25 years old that CAN be imported legally to the US. That is THE list....nothing outside of that can be brought into the US unless you want to spend a crap load of $$$$$ federalizing a car.

http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/import/elig120115.pdf

my suggestion? Wait 25 years......the warranty will not be an issue then :P
