Because I was focused on ordering an M2 that day, which I did. I really had no intentions on driving the other cars to be honest, didn't even cross my mind.

My parents have my old 1997 Z3 4 banger. Compared to my 650i it couldn't be more different. I do sometimes wish I had another little old roadster where you're exposed and you can ring out the engine without being sent to jail.

the first one for me was when my father leased a 3 series for himself and I to use for the winter. I started to enjoy the ride and feel of the thing. That following year i sold my current sport car and bought a M3.

2004 325i

I'd had my eyes open for a good deal on a silver grey E46 and was browsing online one day and found it at a Lotus dealership. Deal seemed a bit too good to be true but the dealership was close to work so I dropped in during my lunch. When i got there, the window price was about $6k more than the online price but I test drove anyway since I was already there. At the end the dealer asked if I liked it, and I said "yes, but I like it at the offered online price, not the window price!" The dealer told me "you must have been looking at THIS car..." and he proceeds to walk me over to a titanium silver E46 in not as good shape and with a lot more on the clock with the exact price I was expecting on the car I drove.

At that point I was a tad annoyed and insulted that he would suggest i didn't know what fucking car I wanted to buy (I'd done fairly thorough research) so we went inside to the manager's office and long story short, THEY were the ones who mixed up their silver E46s when posting the autotrader listing, not me! To their credit, I got the online price.

When it came time to talk financing, I chuckled and said "no thanks" and got out my check book. Manager seemed a bit surprised; I guess it wasn't every day he had a guy in his Army uniform stroll in and write a $26000 check. He commented "we aren't going to make any money off you at all today, are we?"

I said "nope."

In the USA market, it couldn't have been a 530i either. The E12 was only available as a 528i from 1979 through 1981. Since it was a 4 speed manual, that would mean it had to be a 1979 528i as the 5 speed showed up in 1980.

He didn't say he was in the USA.

'09 3-series.

Fell in love. Parents bought the car brand new and still have it to this day. Black on brown, mint condition. No car has that type of steering anymore, doesn't matter which brand.

It doesn't matter...there was no E12 530i except in the US marketplace (1975-1978) and a very small quantity for Japan (1977). If it was a 1979 or 1980 model, it was a 528i regardless of location.

Okay, you win, but you forgot about South Africa My real point was that it could not have been a 535i. Have a great day.

Oddly enough, a 323ix wagon (is that still an E46). Was an automatic and I just loved the way it drove. It was one of the few wagons that was being made at the time. I was looking for a replacement to my 1994 Accord Wagon. Ended up with a 2000 Toyota 4runner instead, but it opened my eyes to rear wheel drive

Mine was my first. A 2000 e46 323i. What a rocket!!! But I managed to upgrade from model to model after that. Goes like this:
2000 e46 323i - 2007 e92 328i - 2009 e90 335i - 2013 e92 335is - 2017 M2

It broke my heart when the transmission went. I love my F22, but my E46 is like one of my ex girlfriends I can't ever really forget...

...I have an odd history. I've loved and lost a lot.
