Winter tyres

Hey guys,

I have a m135i x-drive with oem style 436M rims, with summer tyres:
front:225/40R18
rear: 245/35R18

Now I want to put winter tyres on these same rims, but there is only one winter tyre of the dimension of my rear summer tyres and it's way too expensive!
So I was wondering if I could put another size tyre on my back rims?

I read online that the dimension of the back rims is of 8Jx18 ET52 (and 7.5Jx18 ET45 for the front)

Thanks a lot for the answers!

Yes, you can. 225-tyres will fit 8" wheels. Use the front tyre size.

It is usually cheaper in the long run to have two sets of wheels, if you can afford the extra cost of buying them.

Hey, thanks for the answer.

I was also considering buying another set of rims to fit four 225/40 R18 tyres.

I went to BMW yesterday, and they strongly advised me against non BMW-rims, the guy really wanted me to buy their winter kits (bmw rims and bmw 'star' certified tyres).
What do you think about that?

Otherwise, I don't really know what dimension I should look for the news rims.
Right now I have:
FRONT: 7.5Jx18 ET45
REAR: 8Jx18 ET52

A website tells me I should get 8Jx18 ET 43, that should fit without any issue right?

Thanks a lot for the answer, you are really helping me since people in garages are trying to rip me off

BMW rims keep their value well, and they are good quality. If you go with other rim types, make sure you get the pressure sensors installed. 8x18et43 will fit, but the best rim size for 225-tyres is 7.5".

The star certified tyre thing is mostly a hype.

a square setup (eg 225 all around) is best for a winter setup. try to avoid staggered width on the rear for the winter.

Very good choice of tyre for winter and I would recommend them
