$25K - what to buy...

So, I'm going to cut down on car expenses and hopefully pick up a used car, hopefully sub US$25K. With the strong dollar (for us Canadians), it opens up a whole new world for cars for me.

I have a diverse range of cars, some of which are not even in the same category, but that's just me...

I do want a little more space than the E90 3-series for the growing kids, so the Pcar is only on the list cuz it's one of those dream things (and probably the only car in the bunch that would retain the most of its value I guess).

2005 Cadillac CTS-V (about $22.5K)
2007 BMW X3 3.0si (about $27K)
2007 BMW 530xiT (about $24K)
2007 Honda Element (about $18K)
2001/2 Porsche Carrera Convertible ($30K)* (too small, not practical, costly to maintain/fix)
2007 BMW 335xi (only because I can re-use all my stuff! I think it's kinda small actually) (about $29K)
2007 Audi A4 (about $25K)

Comments welcome, especially as to prices. If you think I can get significantly better deals for xyz car I've listed above, let me know!

They're kinda small aren't they? Not a fan of the STI in any event. IMO, the STI is ugly - all generations... So says the guy who likes the Element for some odd reason...

Element. I'd imagine it to be the least costly to maintain out of all your choices and most durable with kids.

335. I've read about the last generation of CTS-V's not being the most reliable cars in the world.

A used STi (look for a 2005) should be in your budget. It leaves you plenty of cash to play around with.

Or a gti?

I don't know about the Sti, but the Evo X does not retain its value, at all, mainly because dealers like South Coast mitsubishi in Costa Mesa, CA sell brand new Evo X's for dirt cheap. Theyve been known to sell 2010 X's below 30k. When I sold mine, I couldn't get shit for it because they were pushing 2010s off the lot for 27-28k.

E39? As much as I love it and it being one of my favorite cars of all time... 1 word: VANOS

Still, if I was in the same situation, I know I'd find myself looking at an E39 M5 anyway while also checking out a ZHP 330i

The same situation...as in just having cut and sold a few kilos of blow?
