ECU tune 120d M performance w. power kit
Hello fellow beemers,
I have a F20 120d complete M performance equipped including the power kit. Packing about 200hp now, with quite the punch. Not like the 1M, but anyways. Now I'm looking to find about 30-40 horsepowers more, too ad to the fun. Anyone knows a diesel tuner with high quality stuff? Been looking around, but it's hard to find the best answer... Anyone know of these guys? http://www.chipexpress.com/products/3330/ Best regards /H

I'm getting my 120d this week and I really want to get the Power Kit. Do you notice much of a difference between 0 and 100 km/h, or is it the biggest gain when accelerating beyond those speeds?

I would either with a reputable BMW tuner who offers a tunning box, like AC Schnitzer or Hartge, or I would go with a reputable ECu tuner like DMS or Evolve. I would not experiment with anyhting else...just my humble opinion.

Yeah sure, but spending that amount on what is basicly just a brand is stupid.
I think I will turn to KCR in Sweden for some reputable tuning. Regards H

Would that be a remap?

That would be a connecting box in the engine bay. However, now looking at another tuner in Stockholm for a remap, and more power.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the performance pack on the 120d involve BMW remapping the engine? As far as I'm aware there are no after market custom maps as nobody has cracked the encryption yet.
There are plenty of off the shelf tuning boxes about but they are intended for the standard 120d map so if the performance pack means your engine map is different who knows what might happen if you plug one of these in. The Ptronic boxes usually have one of the highest claims and it states 238bhp for that engine. However, these things are usually a little optimistic in their claims.

mowflow have a good point there. Be careful! perhaps it will be weird results adding a tune ontop of the current bmw-tune so to speak.
Any feedback on the bmw power-kit for 120d? is there a significant difference or is it not worth it doing that upgrade? |

In that case I'd just order a box and stick it on. Most of them have a return policy anyway. I'd go for the Spider tuning box or the P Tronic one as I've read good reviews of both on the 320d and the 123d.

THought I should give a few comments on this kit.
I have a 2012 120dA with all the M Performance goodies included the brakes that I just recently installed this kit on. At the same time I also updatet the software for the Sportautomatic gearbox. It made a HUGE difference. The car is 100% transformed. First the gearbox is like I have installed a DKG box. In sportmode it changes gear instantly and much harder than before. In comfort mode it is smooth, but much more sporty than before. The car is much stronger, you feel it from the first meter. I have made some very unoffical test with a stopwatch, here is the results. 0-100 before app 8,4 sec 0-100 after app 7,6 sec. Lack of grip due to cold surface. 0-140 before app 16 sec 0-140 after app 13,3 sec On the same day I tested a 125i and got this results 0-100 6,9 0-140 12 sec. This is an impressive increase. The combination of the software update on gearbox and the powerkit is absolotly something to consider. In the kit you get an much bigger intercooler and a new controlunit. The car has to be programmet to the new unit at a BMW shop, this takes from 3-5 hours. Warranty still intact and no downside at all. I cant see the reasson to try and mess with this. My guess is the the powerrating on this are underated. |

I am very pleased with it. The feeling that the car has become easier on the 150-200 kg. 413 nm I guess is not the final figure. the quality of the Russian fuel is to blame.

Hi All,
First of all as a new member I want to say hallo to every happy F20 user And now back to the business. As a lucky BMW 120d user (produced in 2012) I decided to take advantage of the BMW offer called M-Performance Power Kit for 120d model. So simply called to the dealer and I asked about availability and potential dates to make this upgrade. Of course dealer said ok, great, they will check and come back to me with details. Dealer came back and said "There is no PPK available". Ok, so I asked him not available now or what, and he just said not available at all for my car (this model with this number). I was really surprised and I tried to get more details but there was no details behind it, just not available and sorry, of course he would be delight to sell me one package but not in this case. So, I just went to another official BMW dealer, I showed him a car, papers, and he said something like that "Car is ok, from technical point of view it is possible to install PPK but according to the number car is not "editable" and it is hard to do it here in Switzerland, it is about regulations". In that situation I asked him, If I take car to any BWM dealer in Germany there will be no problem to install official BMW package in my car right? He confirmed. Status for now is that I am waiting final call from this dealer with more details. Now my question is maybe someone from you dear forum users have faced that kind of issue? It seems there is a potential customer who wants to spend money on BMW products but cannot do that. P.S. I forgot, from first BMW dealer there was a suggestion that I can make an upgrade via chiptuning, but of course I have to remember about car warranty... ??? I know how you feel, I asked a total of 4 local dealers here, one didn't know anything about it, other quoted wrong figures (money&time wise, E87's instead of F20's), after explaining the difference between the procedure for both chassis and getting kind of a I_got_no_clue_what_you_are_talking_about expression, I discarded them also. The third one was BMW Iberica(ie, the automaker's dealer here in Spain), they didn't recommended it as the increase in performance was marginal, told me that a chip/box tuning would get me more for my money, as I didn't know it already (they failed to take into account that I didn't want to void the warranty, first thing I stated on my enquiry). The fourth finally gave my a quote, but after the other replies I had already been discouraged. I see you're from Switzerland, seeing how's aftersales over there (same as here), if I were you I would not bother and just cross to Germany to have the kit installed, might as well save some money, there's a dealer that has some great discounts for members of some of the German forums, the ppk is listed just shy of 1000euro fitted (some 400euros less that the best quote I have over here). Here's the link, http://www.bmw-matthes.de/aktuelles/...320d-520d.html I might plan a two week holyday this spring and pay them a visit, I also want to fit the M aero package, the ppk, and a few minor things. The quote I got here for the M aero kit was around 3000euro and they do it for 1500!, so, 400 of savings from the ppk, and 1500 for the M package... some 1900euros to spend on the holydays! ) |
