Advice Req'd : Change rear window or not?

We've just bought an F20 through the BMW Approved Used scheme.

The day after we picked it up I noticed the rear demister was partly broken where I assume some git had badly removed a sticker from a rival dealer. Large sections of the copper conductor have gone.

On the "arc" of heating wires, looking in the rear-view mirror, all top 3 don't work from the 9 to 12 o'clock position and only the middle wire of the top 3 works in the 12 to 3 o'clock position. (and yes, they are heating wires, not aerial wires).

The car is going in to the dealer in a couple of days for them to look at this. The only way I think they can sort it is to replace the rear window - my dilemma is :

Will replacing the rear window cause more problems than it's worth? (I'm worried about seals being damaged, risk of leaks...etc) OR
Should I live with the reduced demister area and seek compensation instead?

Any views?

Get it fixed... it's under warranty so nothing to worry about

PS Only the arc of the wiper area gets heated and not the elements outside of the arc unlike previous E87 versions

@sootyvrs,
Thanks for the reply.

Yes, it's definitely the area under the wiper blade "sweep" that's affected - so it should be demisting.

The warranty only covers part failure in normal use. In this case it is due to someone damaging the part, so I believe it would be down to the dealer to pay for the replacement (best part of £450 with fitting). Interesting discussions ahead!

My "nuclear" option is to return the car under the 30 day rejection period - but finding one with the same spec for the right price will be difficult.

If the dealer is reasonable they should sort that for you FOC as the car shouldn't have got through AUC checks with that sort of defect (Arguably a safety fail).

Dig your heels in.

Thanks for the replies.

I'll be insisting this is put right - even if it means replacing the rear window.

Just watched a BMW video for their Approved Used scheme - in which it states how thorough they are and that "all electrical and mechanical systems are tested and inspected" and that "...everything down to the cup-holders is checked."
