I agree with Woland's reply
I have driven a M1 and it is not for the everyday commute (some may disagree).
It's power delivery is very touchy and a bit unpreditable when pushed compared to say the M3 or M5, but still a fantasic machine to drive.
The M135i I drove in Dubai recently is not quite in the same slot as the M1, however, it is still a very, very quick machine and far more user friendly in the handling department than the M1 and the interior is a far more enjoyable space to spend time in.

Yes, the interior of the 1M is distinctly not befitting of a £40k car.

I came across a similar struggle, but the problem was quickly solved after I test drove the 328. It was just not what I am looking for, and I finally decided to order the M135 last week.

Comparing to the GTI that I am currently driving, the 328 feels much more "civilized", but I just couldn't feel the power (the lack of engine and exhaust noise probably the reason). I would said the ride was rather boring comparing to the GTI. Though the M135 is still not available for test drive, the reviews and video convinced me that it will be a fun car, one that is worthy of giving up the GTI. Will be able to find out several months later and I hope I would not be disappointed.

But I do think that the 328i has a nicer interior. What I noticed is that the trim on the 3 goes all the way across the dashboard, but one the 1 the trim covers only half the dashboard. Which means that the area around the middle of the dash is covered in not-so-appealing hard plastic.

Not that this has stopped me from ordering the M135i, though it did contribute to me thinking twice as to whether the 328i is a more liveable car.

Although I'am not directly in ordering one of both (Although I both want them...) I would use this sceme:

1) do I have at least 2 children (coming up soon) and this is my first and only car? Yes --> 328i, No --> M135i (When it is your second car, it doesn't matter, assure your first one is big enough)

2) do you drive more than 15Kmiles/year mainly on high roads with cruise control? Yes --> convert to 328i, no, keep M135i

in case still on M135i, do you have to look distinctive to 3rd parties often (a few high class parties every month where you have to "shine" for people age 50 and more?), Yes --> convert to 328i, else keep M135i

I hope 75% lands on M135i, what a splendid machine it will be!

for a slight premium I should be able to get a very low mileage 1M instead
and the M135i has an unknown delivery date

I will probably be happier with an 1M, but the M135i does seem like a better daily drive

what do you guys think? should I go for an 1M instead?
If you don't really need the backseats and that's not your dd, you should take the 1M instead.

M135i is very good priced, but I still couldn't accept the looks.

Also I prefer N54 rather than N55 as a performance car.

For similar price I can get an F30 328i in Sport trim. The F30 has a nicer interior, and obviously but more spacious. And even though performance wise the M135i is superior, there are plenty of posts saying that 328i is preferred to the 335i given the better handling and negligible differences in performance under real world conditions.

I'm sure the M135i is a great car and brilliant to drive - which is why I placed the order. But thinking whether the 328i will be a better long term purchase given much nicer interior, more spaciousness, and in my opinion better looks too.

If you could utilise the power of M135i, then it is the best bang with this power/output. Otherwise, F30 328i is more than enough as a dd and better in fuel consumption.

Btw,which 320i are/were you driving?
