“PIXUM Team Schubert” to go on full attack at the Sachsenring

The penultimate race weekend in the ADAC GT Masters season at the Sachsenring (DE) is crucial for “PIXUM Team Schubert” powered by Jochen Schweizer. The team from Oschersleben (DE) is eager to follow on from the successes it had there last season and in doing so secure a good starting position for the title fight at the season finale in Hockenheim (DE).

In 2013, the team achieved a one-two in the second race at the Sachsenring. Jens Klingmann (DE) – back then a guest starter for the injured Jörg Müller (DE) – and Max Sandritter (DE) were victorious, beating Dominik Baumann (AT) and Claudia Hürtgen (DE). This time, in terms of the prospect of winning the title in the drivers' championship, the aim is to pick up as many points as possible in the car number 19 BMW Z4 GT3. Baumann and Hürtgen are third in the overall standings with 136 points, and are 19 points off the top. In the team standings, “PIXUM Team Schubert” powered by Jochen Schweizer has a narrow lead with 168 points. The two races at the Sachsenring on Saturday and Sunday both start at 12:00 pm CEST.

Stefan Wendl (Team Principal Schubert Motorsport):
“Our motto for this weekend is full attack. If we want to be in with a chance of winning the title in the drivers' championship, we need to get as much out of Dominik and Claudia's vehicle as possible. In terms of the team standings, it will also be important for our number 20 car to be up near the front. The track should suit our vehicle, but, as a result of the Balance of Performance, which means we will have 15 kilos of extra weight, I don't think we will be the clear favourites. The winding track also suits the Audi down to a T.”

Claudia Hürtgen (BMW Z4 GT3, number 19): “It's crucial for us to come to terms with the disappointment at the Nürburgring and go on full attack – without any lapse in concentration. From my perspective it would be a mistake to draw too many conclusions from our strong results last year. We've already seen that the balance of power can shift on the individual tracks a few times this year. We will definitely give it our all and see if that's enough to finish at the top.”

Jens Klingmann (BMW Z4 GT3, number 20): “Naturally I enjoy looking back on my guest start last year, which was extremely successful with a win and a third place. I'm really looking forward to returning to the Sachsenring and am extremely excited about the race. My aim is to repeat last year's victory. We'll have to wait until after qualifying to see whether that's possible.”

The FINAL RACE OF THE ADAC GT MASTERS 2014 SEASON IS FAST APPROACHING:

Next Race Weekend: Hockenheim
10/03-10/05

(Credit: ADAC GT)

Five-way battle for title in finale

Championship leaders van der Linde and Rast have best chance in Hockenheim. Gentlemen championship leader Handlos has no real rivals for title.

Five drivers from three different teams, fielding an Audi R8, Porsche 911 and BMW Z4 will still be battling it out for the Super Sports Car League title at the ADAC GT Masters finale in Hockenheim on the weekend of 3rd-5th October. Championship leaders Kelvin van der Linde (18, South Africa) and René Rast (27, Germany / both Prosperia C Abt Racing) are on the home straight in the Audi R8 and have the best chance of success. The Audi drivers extended their lead recently at the head of the standings on rivals Jaap van Lagen (37, Netherlands / GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport) in the Porsche 911 with a double win at the Sachsenring. "We've definitely got the advantage but it's not game, set and match just yet, as you never know what might happen at the last weekend of the season," said a cautious Rast ahead of the finale. Claudia Hürtgen (43, Germany) and Dominik Baumann (21, Austria / both PIXUM Team Schubert) will pull out all the stops in the two races in Hockenheim (live on kabel eins, Saturday and Sunday, commencing at 11:45 am). Placed third in the standings, they only have a chance on paper in the BMW Z4 but are still fighting to take the team title and the runner-up position.

Van Lagen has to make up ten points in first race

High drama in Hockenheim on Friday in qualifying and in Saturday's first race. For title rivals van Lagen and team-mate Christian Engelhart (27, Germany) in the Porsche, it's a question of securing a good grid position for race one and a top ranking in Saturday's race in order to keep the title race open until Sunday. Van Lagen must gain by at least ten points in the standings on the Audi pair in the first race, otherwise, it's van der Linde / Rast, who will be cheering on Saturday. It's not very often that the title in the ADAC GT Masters is decided in the penultimate race. Only twice in seven years in fact has the championship been resolved after the penultimate race. "I have to hope that the Audi guys will fail to score any points in one of the races and pray for rain, because we think we have a good chance on a wet track," said van Lagen before the finale.

BMW duo Hürtgen / Baumann will focus primarily on the team standings in the finale. "Audi did extremely well in the races last time out. If they can achieve a decent grid position in qualifying at Hockenheim, there will be very little risk of the title not going to van der Linde and Rast," was Hürtgen's considered opinion in the run-up to the finale. The winner of two races this season intends to bring home the team championship for Oschersleben-based PIXUM Team Schubert along with Baumann and team-mate Max Sandy Knight (25, Germany), plus local driver Jens Klingmann (24, Germany). Things are even closer in the team standings than in the drivers' championship in the run-up to the two final races. Defending champions Prosperia C Abt Racing led by former ADAC GT Masters champion Christian Abt have an 18-point lead on PIXUM Team Schubert. GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport and Corvette team, Callaway Competition, also have a theoretical chance of lifting the title. The Corvette is now the most successful super sports car in the ADAC GT Masters in terms of victories, but the American sports car has a score to settle at Hockenheim; so far, the Corvette has been without a win in Callaway's home race. Daniel Keilwitz (25, Germany) and local hero Andreas Wirth (29, Germany) intend to change that situation in the finale.

Mercedes-Benz team ROWE Racing are hoping for their maiden podium of the season at their home race. The team from the nearby city of Worms are aiming to round off their debut season in the ADAC GT Masters with a champagne shower for the two Mercedes-Benz SLS AMGs and their strong pairings of ex-Formula 1 driver Jaime Alguersuari (24, Spain)/Nico Bastian (24, Germany) and former DTM-driver Maro Engel (29, Germany) and Jan Seyffarth (28, Germany).

Handlos just needs to finish safely in the first race to clinch the Gentlemen title

Porsche may still be embroiled in a title fight in the drivers' standings, but it is already certain that the champion in the Gentlemen class will be driving a Porsche 911 for the third time in a row. Gentlemen championship leader Herbert Handlos (31, TONINO Herberth) has no real title rivals. The Austrian, who has achieved nine victories in class from 14 races, is 88.5 points up on his pursuer and fellow Porsche driver Dominic Jöst (36, Germany / TONINO Herberth). Handlos just needs to cross the line safely in the Porsche 911 in the first race to make the title his.

A new team will be using the Hockenheim finale to get some experience of competing in the ADAC GT Masters. Dupré Motorsport will line up for the first time in the Super Sports Car League with an Audi R8 and Christoph Dupré (35, Germany) and ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Thomas Schöffler (20, Germany) at the wheel. The Saarland-based team is new to the ADAC GT Masters, but enjoyed some success almost 20 years ago in the ADAC GT Cup, lining up with Audi.

EuroV8Series and Renault Clio Cup Central Europe guest

Two guest series will be at Hockenheim, guesting alongside the ADAC GT Masters, the Formel ADAC and the ATS Formel 3 Cup and providing plenty of motor racing action. After the successful EuroV8Series debut during the ADAC GT Masters weekend at the Sachsenring, the spectacular V8 touring cars will contest their championship fixture in Hockenheim. Renault Clio Cup Central Europe, a wee bit smaller but just as exciting, will also deliver some exciting touring car racing; the Renault Clio championship will also be decided in Hockenheim.

Well, Hockenheim was on 10/05 and that was the last race of the season. How did it end? Read this report from ADAC:

The Gentlemen class win at the finale went to Corvette driver Remo Lips.
Lips secures final win in Gentlemen category

10/06/14

Corvette double victory at finale: In the last race, victory overall and the win in the Gentlemen class went to the American sportscar.

Remo Lips (Callaway Competition) clinched the last Gentlemen class victory of the 2014 season at the ADAC GT Masters finale in Hockenheim. At the wheel of his Corvette Z06.R, the Swiss driver, supported by ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Lennart Marioneck, took the win from Porsche drivers Herbert Handlos/Alfred Renauer (TONINO Team Herberth) and Anton Wossos/Nathan Wolf (GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport) in a dramatic final stint.

Corvette driver Toni Seiler (Callaway Competition) looked a certain winner for quite a long time. Seiler's team-mate Andreas Simonsen led the class in the first half of the race and handed over the Corvette to Seiler in second place overall. The Swiss veteran defended the lead in the second stint until he spun off track while scrapping for second place overall with Claudia Hürtgen in the Motodrom. Lips inherited the lead in class and drove to his third win of the season. And yet, the race had got off to an action-packed start for the Swiss driver and team-mate Marioneck. Marioneck was put into a spin at the start in the first turn and was left chasing after the field. In the final stages of the race, Lips then benefited from a broken drive-shaft on the Porsche 911 of Dominic Jöst/Florian Scholze (TONINO Team Herberth) and the slide off track by his team-mate, Seiler. After the second safety car period, Lips took the lead in class from newly crowned Gentlemen champion Handlos and made victory certain. Anton Wossos and Wolf Nathan completed the podium party in third place.

Lips told us after the finale: "Today's race was full of ups and downs, with a spin at the start and a stop-and-go penalty, some decent overtaking manoeuvres and two safety car periods during which we were able to catch up. It's nice to finish the season with a win in the end, and I'm delighted that we managed to secure our first Top-Ten finish."

Handlos: "Racing today was a mixed affair. I made a small mistake and drove a little too fast in the pit lane. We were handed a penalty for that and lost position, but ultimately, we had no chance against the Corvette."

TONINO Team Herberth celebrated a hat-trick in the overall standings of the Gentlemen category. Dominic Jöst finished runner-up behind 2014 Gentlemen champion Herbert Handlos, who secured the title in the penultimate race of the season on Saturday, and Florian Scholze ended his first season in the ADAC GT Masters in third place.

VLN UPDATE - There are just 2 VLN races left this year, the ROWE race on 10/11 and on 10/25 will be the DMV Munsterlandpokal. Read below at 10/11/2014

A race for the history books

The VLN starts after the involuntary fog break through again: Next Saturday the ROWE DMV 250-mile race is the penultimate round, on the program.

It is in the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring is not a rarely used phrase, but so often true: In the ninth round, the ROWE DMV 250 miles race of the AC Monheim, everything is at the start, what rank and name. Around 190 vehicles are to be launched at the penultimate four-hour race of the 2014 season.

Here, the beefy GT3 racer from the traditional Bentley celebrates a world premiere and will for the first time in racing the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife under the wheels. The British super athlete goes by the catchy name Continental GT3 and will be driven by three British works driver Guy Smith, Steven Kane and Andy Meyrick. There are also a number of small anecdotes that will ensure that the race is going to write the same story in several respects.

Adrenalin victorious in the BMW M235i Racing Cup.
Fourth place on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in the penultimate race of the VLN was enough for Adrenalin Motorsport and its drivers Daniel Zils, Uwe Ebertz and Norbert Fischer to secure the drivers' and team titles before the end of the first ever season of the BMW M235i Racing Cup class.

With 200 points, taking into account the two discarded results that will be calculated in the drivers’ standings at the end of the season, the trio are now out of reach. In the team championship, with 222 points Adrenalin Motorsport has a 34-point advantage over Scheid-Partl Motorsport. With a maximum of 26 points for a victory at the season finale, this title has also already been decided. The class victory at the ROWE DMV 250 Miles Race went to Emin Akata and Michael Schrey from the Walkenhorst Motorsport team. Second and third places went to Scheid-Partl Motorsport and Sorg Rennsport.

Three questions for … Matthias Unger (team principal Adrenalin Motorsport).

Mr Unger, you started the season with the aim of winning in the first ever year of the BMW M 235i Racing Cup class. Now you’ve done it…

Matthias Unger:
“That’s right. We’ve completed our mission. We showed some strong racing and had the right amount of luck needed for such a success. We would have loved to have clinched the title with a win, but you could tell that our drivers were playing it safe in the race and didn’t want to retire. They might have been a bit too cautious, but that doesn’t matter today.”

What role did the drivers play in winning the title in general?

Unger:
“A crucial one. They all did a fantastic job. Their strengths are that they all have a similar speed and a lot of experience on the Nordschleife. They are real experts on this track. That’s particularly useful for making it through the 24 hour race without any major incidents.”

Forgetting the championship victories, what did you think of the debut season of the BMW M235i Racing Cup class?

Unger: “This cup is a very interesting platform for us. There were some very positive developments over the course of the season. This weekend 16 BMW M235i Racings started in the class, that’s a great number. Hopefully this trend will continue and even more cars will take part in 2015. It would be great for us. Even if it would make it extremely difficult to defend the title, which is our goal of course.”

Adrenalin Press Release:

ADRENALINE MOTORSPORT TEAM WINS THE BMW M235I PIXUM RACING CUP

Heusenstamm. With a fourth place, the adrenaline-Motorsport team Pixum was the penultimate round of the VLN Plug Championship at the Nürburgring ahead of the driver and team championship in the BMW M235i Racing Cup secure. From fifth place on the grid in the highly competitive class Cup5 the driver trio held with regard to the mastery of the four-hour distance away clever back and finally reaped the fruits of this in the target. "Of course, the pressure was huge today, but we knew that an eighth place would be enough for us. Therefore, we have our Pixum BMW M235i really worn around the course, "said Zils, which finally came in fourth position with his two teammates to the finish prematurely and thus made the championship perfect. "The key to success was certainly our consistency and at the same time the yield points in 24 races. The fact that we can not be caught before the season finale in the standings shows what a great job everyone did. Thank you to everyone, "added team manager Matthias Unger (Heusenstamm).

"At the corner exit I got under control when suddenly accelerating design. Unfortunately, I have been doing the guardrail caught obliquely, so that the rear axle was damaged. Our mechanics did a great job and can repair the vehicle again. Unfortunately, however, was due to the service life of around 20 minutes and the balance in our class not more than the ninth place possible, "Konnerth. "Today was not our day. We must now check off quickly and look ahead the race. In two weeks, we want to attack again, "added teammate stone house. The titles will be awarded at the final

In addition to the drivers’ championship, which includes the official Champions, the VLN endurance racing championship provides for some more several special classifications. Winners’ trophies will likewise be awarded in the VLN Production Car Trophy, the VLN Junior Trophy and the VLN Speed Trophy. Other titles are the Cup classifications organised by BMW, Opel and TMG all of which provide exciting motorsport action at the VLN races and are associated with fame and honour for the winners. With the 39th DMB Münsterlandpokal, the VLN calendar shows the tenth and final round of the series to take place on 25 October. Nine races will be taken into consideration for the final classification in the 2014 season as the 46th ADAC Barbarossapreis had to be cancelled due to fog and according to the regulations one of the nine results will be deleted for the final score. The addition of the eight best results will thus be taken into consideration.

In terms of championship, a preliminary decision has been taken at the ninth championship round. Rolf Derscheid (Much/ Germany) and Michael Flehmer (Overath/ Germany) in the BMW 325i celebrated their seventh win in the class of VLN production cars up to 2,500 cc cylinder capacity. Arithmetically speaking, the two ambitious privateers are thus in an uncatchable first place in the championship and will under normal circumstances receive start number one in a symbolic act after the season final. The decision about the following positions is still open. Hannu Luostarinen (Finland) and Tim Schrick (Munich) have the best chances to win second place in the championship. At the ninth race, the driver duo achieved their fifth victory in the Opel Astra OPC Cup class. Their advance ahead of Adam Osieka (Meuspath) in third place is far from being a comfortable lead as, after seven races, Osieka scored valuable points again at the last race together with Steve Jans (Luxembourg) in the Porsche Cup class of VLN Specials up to 4,000 cc cylinder capacity.

The positions in the production car class, in contrast, are settled. Derscheid and Flehmer have a clear advance ahead of their competitors. In second place is Manuel Metzger (Switzerland) of the Black Falcon Team TDM Friction ahead of his team mates Ivan Jacoma (Switzerland) and Christian Schmitz (Herresbach/ Germany). Schmitz is also one of the protagonists in the junior classification. With a gap of 1.65 points behind the championship leader Max Partl (Pyrbaum/ Germany) who scored his points together with Jörg Weidinger (Happurg/ Germany) in the BMW M235i Racing Cup he is waiting for his chance to catch up.

In the lead of the VLN Speed Trophy, the special classification for top cars, is the Frikadelli Racing Team. With three victories in the current season, regular drivers Sabine Schmitz, Klaus Abbelen (both from Barweiler/ Germany) and Patrick Huisman (Netherlands) have scored many points and are leading with an advance of 25 points ahead of the Audi R8 LMS ultra of the team Phoenix-Racing in which Marc Basseng (Rosenbach/ Germany) and Frank Stippler (Bad Münstereifel/ Germany) last finished third. As the number of victories will be decisive in case of a tie, the win can no longer be taken away from the Frikadelli team.

Regarding the Cup classes, only the result in the BMW classification is decided yet. The first champions in the Cup organised by the Munich manufacturer are Daniel Zils (Bendorf/ Germany), Norbert Fischer (Cologne) and Uwe Ebertz (Sinn-Fleisbach/ Germany) of the Team Adrenalin Motorsport. The titles in the Opel Astra OPC Cup with current leaders Thorsten Wolter (Berlin) together with the brothers Heinz-Otto and Jürgen Fritzsche (both from Hückeswagen/ Germany) as well as in the TMG GT86 Cup showing Arne Hoffmeister (Lutter/ Germany) and Fabian Wrabetz (Bad Soden/ Germany) in the lead will be decided in the final face.

The 39th DMV Münsterlandpokal will run over the usual four hour distance and it will conclude the 38th year of the most popular grassroots series in Europe.
