Cool Subaru BRZ pricing @ $24000 for base model / $27000 for high model

Not a bad starting price at all for the low trim model ($24k)!

Full pricing details - http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2579

Seems then that the FR-S will probably be priced at $21-$22k I'm guessing.

I think the Scion will be priced closer to the base Subie and come with a standard set of decent options w/ none to add (ala tC).

Interesting they're claiming the curb weight is almost 100lbs heavier than what Subaru said in the press release.

The fact that Toyota is selling it as a Scion only in the US, is a MAJOR FAIL.

They have no idea how much sales they just lost to more mature purchasers.

The Subie will be the big winner in the US.

dont wanna come off as a dick but who would buy that car? It looked great on paper and the concept was beautiful, but they ruined it. The proportions are way off, interior is way too outdated, and its not as fast as everyone thought it would be.

Honestly between this and a genesis coupe, I don't know why anyone would pick this. Think they made a smart decision of badging it as a Scion. Any of the current Scion cars badged as Toyota would bring the brand value down.

Anyone else notice this specs on the brake rotors?

"BRZ Limited model adds leather seats with Alcantara trim, fog lamps, rear deck spoiler, 17-inch rims and vented discs (16" front, 15" rear)"

There is no way that is accurate. That would make the BRZ's rotor size larger than a GTR, Corvette or even Enzo. Not to mention the fact that it is probably impossible to put a 16" rotor inside of a 17" wheel.

Someone clearly has their mm to inch conversion off. But it would be no problem to put a 16" rotor in a 17" wheel. Now putting a caliper in there might be tough, but the rotor, no problem.

I wonder how much it will be with options... It will have to push 30k then you are in 370z territory.

I read that the engine (compared to the 2.0L in the Imprezas) is located 7 or 8 inches further back making an AWD powertrain impossible.

Putting one in there would require a big redesign and kill the purpose the car.

I think the Japanese means the rotor size can be fitted under 16" wheels so they called it 16" rotors. If the rotors are 16" then it will be approx. 400mm in diameter, it's even bigger than the Brembos on the 2012 GTR which I think it's impossible.

This isn't an M3 vs. thread, or totally off topic, so hopefully this thread is in the right place. As the most sporting of BMW enthusiests (a little pandering), I'm interested in what folks think of the newest sports car to hit the scene...

http://www.subaru.com/brz/2013/index.html

I'm a die hard car fan, and more specifically, a BMW fan. And even more specific yet, an ///M fane. I'm 32 and I've owned a '78 320i, '89 325i, '91 M5, '98 M3, '07 335i and now my '11 M3. I've owned many other makes/models, as well, but always long for BMW's, and specifically M cars.

I'm posting here to "crazy" check myself with likeminded people.

I miss, in my "under" powered cars, like my 325i, the feeling that I could drive it to the max of its capabilities on the street, out in the bluffs, on and off ramps, etc. Now with the incredibly high capabilities of modern cars, like my M3, I always feel like I need to be restrained. The speeds the car is capable of are so immense, that I have trouble finding anywhere but a track to use them. But tracking a $60k+, brand new car, seems a little wacky to me. I'll do it, just like I did with my 335i, but I mean, god forbid I crash on the track. What about the costs track insurance, track pads, tires, all more expensive on a car like this.

Well, then the new Subaru BRZ caught my eye.

Classic sports car looks, with a sexy silouette that reminds me of a Datson 240z, but brought into the modern erra. There's something almost Aston Martin-esque about the design, like a Japanese Aston.

Then there's the engineering... Lower center of gravity than a Boxter, a few hundred lbs shy of 3000, standard 6 spd MT, RWD, standard LSD (are you listening BMW!!!), 200 HP flat four, hung low in the chassis.

All this for not much more than a Honda Civic Si!! Seems like a perfect budget track car/weekend toy. I'm sure it doesn't get the blood stirring or have the practicality of the M3, but it may be even more rewarding to drive in a world with limits and when money matters. If they can add more power without adding much more weight, it could be exceptional.

So, my M3 brothers and sisters. Am I off base, is it just an underpowered buzzing bee flying around my head? Or is it the real deal, the first affordable pure sports car of this generation?

Crazy check away!!

OT or Gen Car forum material, IMO.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

I agree with you, I am pretty excited about this car.

On a different topic, I miss Milwaukee, a lot of good times there!

damm...I'm sold on the idea of using it as a track toy.

I wonder how this thing compared to the S2000...
