Hi all
Newbie Q here, but I did search both google and the forums for an answer but couldnt find anything...so here goes.... My 2012 116d sport (UK spec, my first BMW) has a voice button on the steering wheel, but it does nothing, even if I hold it down. My bluetooth is the basic one and it works fine though the I-Drive stick. Is this normal for a BMW? I was expecting a blanking panel there... At least thats what you would get on my last car (a Ford)! Thanks for any help!! When the weather is a bit nicer I'lll take some pics of it (its in awesome Valencia Orange) James |

Nah, unused but fitted buttons is nothing new. I had the full handsfree-button-array on my E87 too, without any use. Same with the voice-command-button in my F20 now.

To be honest, imo it looks better with the (not working) button than with a blank one. At least to people who don't know your exact car-spec. I thought thats somehow stupid when I first got my e87 years back too, but didn't take long to end up at "I don't really care" -

Voice activation is a waste of time, it can be frustrating to use and seldom works all the time and you finish up just doing the task manually anyway.
It can be a source of ammusment though when it does or answers something total wrong. My current car has it and I did use it a few times in the past 3 years when I was bored. As expressed by the others just ignore it. |
