F20 Petrol
Unlike my last car which required 98 RON the F20 seems to only require 95.
What are you F20 owners using? There's not a lot of price difference between 95 and 98 here in Australia.... |

According to the manual:
" The use of Super RON 95 is recommended. Qualities of RON 91 and higher is permitted".

There was a study out recently by RAC suggesting turbo twin spoolers perform better on 98 with increases in both HP and torque. Proof is how it works on the road I guess

The power rating as specified by BMW is based on RON 95.
Super 98 means slightly higher output, 91 means slightly less. I'm sure it's measurable, but I doubt you can feel the difference. At least not between 95 and 98.

Sorry guys, it's just that RON means 'rum' in Spanish, so I've had a good laugh with the missus figuring out which brand of RON95 should we use on the new baby... |

Hello,
Just wanted to share this with all petrol F20 owners out there... 1500 kms... 40% in motorway 40% in B roads 20% city traffic Comfort drive mode mostly, just the odd Eco minute driving. No Sport mode ever. No full throttles, easy driving 95% of the time. 6,6 litres / 100kms. Nice for a 118i IMHO... |

On the official documentation ( paper or pdf) , the specifications are given for RON 98. One can download these documents from BMW websites. I always take RON 98 for my 4700 kms 125i. So far so good....

Most servos in this part of Aus only have 92, 95(E blended) or 98. So, I will stick to 98
For those with Diesels If you bought it for enviromental reasons, you need to get an Ad-Blue tank and bits fitted to your car and then you can fix those NOx issues. If you bought it for the pulling power and fuel eccomomy we understand. My only thing against diesels is that I have not heard a great exhaust note from a 4 pot diesel under hard throttle 'yet'. |
