Oil change

I have got an oil change message coming up saying book dealer to get oil change in 1200 miles
I assume this is a top up that i can do as its a petrol engine and not a full oil change . If so how do I know how much to add
Sorry if this seems a dumb question .i have done 11000 miles so far
Car under one year old

The 116i has a dip stick, so it is easy to top up. There is approximately 1 liter between the maximum and minimum marks on the stick.

If the message says ''oil change'', then you have to change the oil. If it was for a top up, the message would be different (stating ''top up'' or something like that).

new engine = extra crap in the first lot of oil - imagine all the micro particles of metal in it slowly grinding away... id change it pronto!

I just had this service done on my 116i by the main dealer under my service plan (4 years service inclusive for £300)

They did a full oil change and micro filter change- the service history no appears in the idrive, stating both service items, and the main dealer who performed the service.

I think having the service history in the idrive will help keep some value.
