None of them have been objectively good movies. They're just fun and testosterone-filled which is their appeal.

I haven't seen 8 but I'm assuming like all recent Hollywood films, it's CGI overload.

The movies are obviously getting more ridiculous, I don't think they'll ever top the bank vault scene in FF5 where Brian and Dom pull that huge vault down the street smashing everything in their way like a bowling ball. That was a great scene!
I agree - I think FF5 was the last movie that seemed to focus primarily around the cars without deviating quite as much. The 6, 7 and 8 films seemed to have significantly detoured from a car movie to more of a mission impossible/XXX type movie.

I still enjoy watching for what they are- and you have to set your expectation levels appropriately- but I do wish they went back to being movies centered around car racing.

Agreed. Fast5 was the last really decent one that was just over-the-top enough to be exciting. Now Hobbs is basically the Polynesian Hulk, Vin is Optimus Prime, and the cars are just afterthoughts. I still enjoyed the film, but I didn't love it. I'm basically hooked in just to see where they take the characters. Shaw's character I actually enjoyed, and he had the best action sequence of the film, but it doesn't make too much sense how he was a homicidal psychopath and now they are all buddies. The opening car race was a nice return to it's roots, but even that couldn't help itself from being way too over the top. I mean, what kind of ratio did that reverse gear have?!
