Major AC problem - please advise

hi guys,

when I got into the car today after work, my rear window defroster AND AC compressor lights (both lights) were flashing...

The AC turned on automatically (as it does every time I start the car), only it almost didn't blow out air.
The small amount of air that was blown out, wasn't at all cold.

This whole time, the lights kept flashing, mind you.

After a while of pushing different buttons, including the MAX button, the AC compressor light turned solid green, and cold air started blowing out.

The rear window defroster light was still flashing.

when I pressed the AUTO button, the fan speed turned down to 1 (as I like it) and the correct temperature was selected, only almost no air got out of the vents, and it was not cold...

The rear window defroster light kept flashing the whole way back home, and is still flashing !

WTF ?!?!

Any inputs are appreciated.

D.

Thanks for your replies.

Update :

Car has been parked for two hours, after which I had to go for a drive..
Now, everything works as it should.

No flashing lights at all, AC works well under AUTO and MAX.

Well.....

I wonder the condition of your battery..

Is stop start working ok? These are both high drain items and the car could have gone into a non consumer mode to rescue the battery. My mercedes used to do this of the charge dropped below a certain level.

Best take it to the dealer regardless to get the codes read. Also enquire about your battery . Glad its working for you now.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Would you recommend, regardless, to turn off the auto start-stop for the time being so that the battery could gain charge ?

Garage List
Take it to your dealer to have a look. The AC is a know problem/failure and it either is software related (an update will solve it - there was also a recall regarding AC unit update) or a failed compressor (it has happened here as well).
