gonna have to look into that one...stragely enough i think for most of us safety is the 3rd or 4th thing we look into when buying a car, i bet most of us off the top of our heads dont know our cars safety features passed the front and side air bags

On the E90, there is something they call a seat belt pre-tensioner system that pulls the belts tight as soon as the car senses a "crash". Not sure if that means a rear end or front end crash. Also the front head rests are the toughest ones I've had on any car (including my e46 325xi). They had a slight tilt forward so your head hits it without "rolling" backwards. Not sure if that answers your question or not..

Volvo Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) that moves the entire backrest to absorb the impact during a rear-end collision to help reduce the forces on the neck. my s60 was rear-ended THIS HELPED ALOT! |

Sorry to say, but the E90 doesn't have a whiplash protection even as an option! (which I think is a discrase for a new BMW 2005) I almost did not by mine because of that.....
But i hope it will come in the near future. Regards

Pretty much all the cars from the major luxury manufacturers (BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus, Infinti, Porsche... etc) are pretty damn safe. You will have a very difficult time finding any significant safety advantage or disadvantage between cars in this class. Even the Euro test standards have gotten to the point where the difference between a 4 star rating and a 5 star rating is really difficult to measure. Here's the thing; consumers in the premium car market have, with rare exception, the expectation that the cars they are buying have the latest safety innovations and be built to a standard that would allow them to perform well in crash tests. BMW and Mercedes have been safety innovators right alongside Volvo, they just choose to market their vehicles differently because- another secret- the only people who consider safety their number one purchasing priority are fucking loosers. |

My thoughts exactly. as much as i do still care about safety, i think the first precationary measure would be to get better at driving, wether it be aggresive driving or normal. I always thought of people in Volvo sedans to be very boring.

Maybe there is no point in having this if your car can quickly turn on a shoulder and avoid the crash or being rear-ended in the first place, now try that with an S60 - That boat just won't do well in crash-avoidance manoeuvers. I tried it and it was more like fighting the car through the cones than mocking them as you do in a 3-Series.
