refitting wheel - an ergonomic disaster

Unlike every other car I've known my daughter's E87 has nothing on the flange to which the wheel will be bolted to take the weight of the wheel while the bolt holes are aligned. Even alloys are heavy & I regard this as a serious design fault.

Every BMW wheel hub I've ever seen has a mounting spigot.... what is the issue? Don't understand how it doesn't take weight and position.

E87 has same/typical spigot design.
