125i Sport auto

Now the very proud owner of a great car which ticks all the boxes but some advice please.....
What's the difference between sport mode (which I really like) and shifting the gear lever left but not touching the paddles?
When I have used the paddles the change up seems a bit harsh compared to previous Golf GTI edition 30 and Scirocco R any comments?
Car has not done many miles as yet so this may improve?

Basically the manual side of the change is the same regardless of whether you use the paddles or the shift lever +-.
The modes are:
Move the shift over to the manual side selects (S) Sport auto shift-- (in normal) it holds gears slightly longer during the up changes and when used with (Sport) mode only 1st to 6th gear is used.
Whilst in the manual position, tap the Gear Lever+- or a paddle+-puts the box into (M) Manual mode- this keeps the gear selected and allows for up and down changes providing some better engine breaking. (unless you try to over rev it---- if detected it changes up automatically)
Keeping the lever in the normal position and using the paddles, allows you move up or down the gears, however once the management system detects a constant load for around 8 seconds it will revert back to Drive (D).
'Have fun' The 125i is a lot of fun to drive in the manual mode. If you want to get up and going as quick as possible, just select (Sport) [no paddles or shifter] and gun it, the auto is brilliant at getting the max power down through the gears (after a little turbo lag)
"After you have run it in of course".

BTW Post some pics ---

How far does it rev before it changes up to 4th, 5th and 6th? At top speed, which is 243 kph (151 mph), you'll be at around 6,300 RPM in 6th gear by my calculations. Maybe it'll use 7th gear after all if you go downhill with a bit of tailwind...

The diesels change at around 4,200 RPM, so we go into 7th already at around 200 kph. I imagine the 125d might go into 8th once the speed exceeds 230-something.

Edit: Looks like the 125d can rev to about 4,800, so it will probably stay in 7th to vmax and beyond.
