F20 consumption is 8.0l/km and going up?

I know we had a previous discussion on fuel economics and before.

I don't know why my F20 consumption is 8.0l/km and going up?

It was 6.8 - 7.2l/km and it started going up for some reason.

Most of the time I drive on comfort mode. By comparing with previous people, it should be within the 6-7l/km range?

I average 50 kms a day. Mostly suburban driving. So i'm wondering whether it's a problem...

Do you have the computer reset for every new trip as this will show higher average fuel reading. Don't keep resetting the computer as short trips will make the average fuel consumption look bad. Better still don't look at the fuel consumption just enjoy the car.

Hmmm I didn't reset it. That's the thing. Maybe cause its winter and rain has been frequent here in Melbourne.

Outside temperature can make a big difference, especially below 3 degrees when you lose start stop aswell.

sounds a bit strange, consumption should be going down rather than going up, that's what mine does. I had a slightly higher consumption when brand new. I got the 120d though, maybe it's different with petrol.

winter-climate shouldn't make any big difference really?, winter in melbourne is around 0 to +10 degrees celsius? and right now it's probably warmer than that.

one thing comes to my mind; petrol quality. What are you running on? If i remember correctly from my roadtrip in aus we went for the cheapest 91 octane or something(?). Could make a difference running on premium-petrol maybe

Difference between +10 and -5 was as much as 5 MPGs is my old 120i.

Air conditioning can make quite a difference.

yes but melbourne don't have that cold temps, correct me if I'm wrong. especially not now when they are not in peak-winter yet. Right now it's more in the area of 10-15 degrees

I use 98 Premium. Either shell or caltex. So shouldn't it actually decrease comparatively?

And I wont for the live of me use 91. It will spoil the car.

The lowest we will ever get in winter is 6-9 degrees. Which was a big difference when it was 18 - 23 degrees a month ago.

Not sure if temperature is the problem... Cape Town has a very similar climate to Melbourne.

I'm finding that there's a much more pronounced difference in consumption between different driving scenarios with my 118i than there was with my previous car (a 2009 Renault Megane).

On the open road, I get really really good figures, around 6.0l/100km, much lower that I got with the Renault.

Driving around town however (in the suburbs, to shops, out to clients during the middle of the day, probably average of 5km trips, no peak crawl traffic though) I've seen in the middle 8 litres so far. If I punch it a bit in Sport from time to time, the average goes up to almost 9.

That's a difference of 3 litres. With my Renault, it always hovered between 7 and 8 regardless of how I drove.

I reckon it's all down to driving style, to be honest. The 118i is very easy to drive very economically if you really want to, because it's got so much low-down torque that you can upshift quickly and keep revs low; but it's also very easy to gather momentum (and burn through fuel) quickly if you don't pay attention.

Any variable will have an impact (+ or -) on mpg. Temperature, rain, do have an impact, slower warm up, more electrical load, greater tyre rolling resistance, it all adds up to burn more fuel.

Thanks for your honest assessment.

I reckon it's because I do fulfill driving criteria where like u say "in the suburbs, to shops, out to clients during the middle of the day, probably average of 5km trips, no peak crawl traffic" just that my average is more of 20-50kms a day.

About being economic. You mean = ECO PRO? I don't really step on the accelerator like crazy. I only rev up to 2-3 at most.

I guess because I rarely do open road driving... It's more of street + suburb driving.

Hi, i am currently living in shanghai ,a city with crazy traffic jam, my comsumption is 11L at traffic jam, 8L at viaduct, 6.2L at high way, normally a ride at 30km across the city is around 10L, if i use M/S mode the figure will go up to 14L. i don;t know your traffic situation, but i am sure your figures are normal.

Nick, 谢谢你。I think it is because it is traffic related plus suburban driving. I know driving in China isn't easy regardless of what car you have. When I did so in Beijing, it was madness.

Wow 14L

Hey Bro.

118 sport line.
The standard Australia package plus dakota leather, high gloss shadow line, etc.

Nothing that would affect fuel consumption
