Hello everybody, a newbie here since the F20 is my first BMW. Took delivery a few weeks back, a 118i SE Petrol Manual with DAB radio. So far no problem with radio signal, but all the stations are DAB so no experience with just normal FM.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Glad to hear the DAB is fine. I never listen to FM anymore, besides they are shutting down the system in a few years anyway.
If you are in a region whitout DAB reception, you can let the radio switch to FM automatically by settings on the iDrive. A great feature

Getting my F20 in 5 days.......

During the last days I've been listening to FM instead of DAB, to check out the reception. At least here in Oslo area it works well, as you would expect, and not worse than any other car radios I've had. And a lot better than my previous Smart

I haven't made any long journeys so far, so I don't know how it is where the topography is more demanding.

In my experience there are a lot ´demanding´areas in Norway as well as in the Swedish region near Tröndelag I live in........

If I didn´t know better (?) I would suspect a faulty antenna amplifier, but that´s impossible, with so many people around Europe complaining.

I have been driving in some demanding areas in Norway, and have no reception problems with FM or DAB. Seems better than average to me. It cuts out in tunnels as expected, but I am generally pleased with the radio.

Had the same problem here, did not have this problem in my ex e46. It can happen randomly. Talked to the dealer, and still waiting for a reply.

Has anyone heard anythiing from BMW on the radio reception?

I ordered the HK system which is excellent but the FM radio reception is just awful and thats in and around a major city.

I also have professional nav and am interested to know how easy it is to add DAB+. Again, any advice greatly appreciated.

He wrote in the Greek BMW Forum that they changed (under warranty) the antenna amplifier and now is working fine.

I guess I'm lucky as I consider the FM reception in my F20 the best one I've had so far. It's easily better than the window antenna in my previous E39, and slightly better than the big external antennas of my previous volvos.

I have DAB, reception is good ... But that's not because of the radio, I think it's more likely that here where I live, in Surrey, about 40 k south west of London, radio transmission is good.
Or maybe it is good? Digital broadcasts don't need as much power, but then I'm ignorant....

Horrid radio signal F20

I have this issue with the 118D in Australia. I have only an FM radio. I have taken it to BMW Australia and they say it works as per manufacturer specification which is ridiculous because everyone who gets in the car comments on how bad the quality is. I've been back to the service room a few times and they have replaced the parts twice and are now refusing to do anything about it saying 'it works as per manufacturer's specification'. I am about to launch formal proceedings against them because there is no way I would have bought the car if I knew of this, or at the very least would have upgraded the radio system (but they can't upgrade anything now once the car is put together). I was told early on that in the new F20 radio was completely different to the one on the E87 and that was the reason behind the different radio quality.
